exhaust question
« on: November 04, 2009, 02:21:06 PM »

I have a 2009 serg with bassani slipons. No modules, remaps, or downloads and the bike runs fine. I just recently won a set of the stock headpipes that are currently on my bike, but these don't have the cats in them. Can I just add them and ride, or will I need to get a racetuner, powercommander, or remap.  Don't have alot of money to work with and the dealors are no help. Everyone tells you something different. Aircleaner is also the stock one that came on the bike. Anyones help would be greatly appreciated.  :worthless:

Should be fine as it is still a "single" exhaust system modification

You can do all the other stuff.  Your choice, but I didn't do anything.  If there is any change in going to the 49-96 header the control unit must adapt real quick.  I didn't see any difference in the performance.  However, it did make a noticeable change in the heat level. :coolblue:

These machines run at a extremely lean AFR setting from the Mo Co. With free flow slip ons and now looking to add a non cat headpipe you should add a fuel management system (SERT, TTS, PC III) these listed are all good... MO, find a good tuner that is knowledgeable with that system > i.e. with the PC III, None better than John Golden
(Rolling Thunder Dyno).... I realize $ is a concern, But don't overlook driveability to much that could cause more serious engine trouble down the road...Do it right the first time and enjoy your ride  :2vrolijk_21:

Ive heard a number of good comments on using these for a little heat reduction on basically stock machines like yours,  http://www.nightrider.com/parts/

Has anyone on this site actually used this system? I looked at their website and while it seems simple enough, there were no install instructions and the whole trouble code thing kind of bothered me. Can anyone shed any light on this product?

I have read thousands of posts on the HD forum tech site, most users like them and a number of Purists hate them,You can talk to the developer any time by phone, I used them on my 07 SEUC, they make a noticeable difference in drivability, smoother running at low speeds a little quicker accelleration, and slightly lower operating temperatures. they certainly dont work for everybody, they function during closed loop from Idle to 4,000 rpms I don't get above that very often, and the MoCo has open loop set rich enough that nothing is going to burn up anyway, the trouble codes apparently were on the 08s and occurred during the starting cycle, from what ive been told the problem does not exist on the new units. Install takes approx 15 minutes if you take your time, you disconnect the 02 sensor plug and install these in between, the
ecm runs closed loop at 14.6 afr but the injectors are inputting 13.8 which is a more user friendly blend. I read a post recently where someone on this forum ordered a set for his 09 CVO so there should be a first hand report soon.

I have to agree with Mr. D.  To error on the side of caution is always the best plan.  With the SE110 set to run so lean, it causes more heat and heat will damage an engine.

I ran both the IED and XIED, for some reason that big rascal seemed to feel better with the earlier IED set up 14.2 version , although either set was was an improvement over OEM.
