best shocks?
« on: March 23, 2010, 04:20:11 PM »

2010 Ultra. Looking to replace rear shocks. Seems the Progressive 440 is a popular choice. I'd appreciate opinions on the best replacement shocks available.

You may want to have a look at these (new for 2010):

Just installed a set of 940's on my 09' CVO Ultra.  They seem to ride really nice, but only a few miles so far.  I love the fact I am nearly an inch lower when stopped.

The 940 looks interesting.

My goal is a smoother more controlled ride. Those Bitubo's at Traxxion look interesting also.

WG, please share your opinion regarding comparing between stock and the 940 as soon as you've ridden a few more miles. I'd appreciate it.

I have just fitted Ohlins supplied by Motorcycle Metal. Howard builds them to his own spec to match each customer's weights and riding style.

The ones at Traxxion are the WMT's Bitubo also makes a WME which you can adjust the preload and the rebound. I could not afford the WMT's. So now I wait to get them.

Bub,

Sometimes it is better to wait until we can afford to buy something worth having, than buy something we can afford and find it isn't what we wanted!

I couldn't consider myself much of a ride expert but I had the SESG adjustable shocks installed on my 2010 cvo Ultra which droopped the rear 1" and has provided a ride I consider to be excellent. Having not ridden high end aftermarket suspension, however, I don't have a basis for comparison.

I have the Progressive 440 hd's at the stock length.  It is a more controlled ride than the stock air shocks on my '09, although the stock '09 air shock was still a much better ride than any previous FLH that I owned (6 of them).

Decided to go with AK 20 and Bitubo, all stock height. I'm 6"4' and don't need it lower. And I personally like the height for cornering, speed bumps and such. Have an appointment end of this month for install. Post my opinion after that.

Hi GRB, how are you findingthe ohlins, I use to have them on my racebike, never really thought about them for the SEEG, I need to change the rear tyre and do some hard riding comparison between the std low profile front forks and the SERK3 front forks I have in now. Do you (or anybody else for that matter) know if ohlins do a fork internal for the FLH front forks?....Ady
