Am currently considering the WO517 bar from Wild 1 for a Road King project.  Consideration so far solely because I like the look.  Have never sat behind a set to feel wrist angle or gain other ergonomic feedback.

Have their WO575 bar on the Electra Glide and their 10" "mini ape" WO515 bar on the Road Glide.  Like them both with special attention paid to the less acute wrist angle they offer compared to most HD bars and how that angle helps the shoulders and mid-back.

At least from the pics the WO517s look to have a more acute wrist angle than the 575 or 515s I already know I like.  Actually in terms of comfort really like the 12" apes on Howie's bike the limited times I've been in its saddle.  That comfort notwithstanding likely won't do that as the taller ape look just isn't my thing anymore.  If there are negative assessments of these WO517s I'm interested in will most likely then go with anohter set of the 515s.

Guidance or advice from anyone with experience with the 517s is greatly appreciated.

The 517's are very much like pushing a wheel barrel. your wrists are turned outward  :'( One of the most uncomfortable bars I have seen. Some people like them though :nixweiss:

From the picture that's what I was afraid of.  Liked their posture on the bike.  But it looked like the wrist angle would be terrible.  That's enough confirmation for me.  Jim, you had hands-on their 518 "RK II" bars?

I have, I don't like them any better than the 517's, still an awkward wrist position.

I am doing a set of 550's on a RK in the next few days. I can post pics of them if you need....This customer has the 8" baby apes on it now (he bought the bike with them) and wants to change to the 550's :nixweiss:

Thanks but I'll pass on the 550s.  That beach bar look isn't my cup of tea.  Also too low for me to ever be comfortable.  Was afraid the 518s would be as you described also.  Picture certainly seemed to suggest as much.  Looks like when the time comes will be right back with another set of the 515 mini apes.

Thanks Jim.  You saved me a lot of time and homework.  Appreciate it.

2lane,

Not an answer to your original question, but I had a set of Wideglide bars on my '03 RK and loved them.  They have enough of a rise and just enough back to be comfortable.

.3 of a Road King....?  Hmmm....

Duane, even that fraction could be variable depending on whether I'm only counting the parts here or all the parts anywhere :huepfenlol2: .

Here is all the paint set.  And a couple of other boxes of disassembled and neutered Road King.  Frame and other bits are setting at a powder coater in Kansas City.  Engine is at the shop rather than the garage here but I'm not counting it as completed yet because I still haven't decided what I'm going to do with it.

Then there's.... well, you get the idea ::) .

That's why this baby is still a project :2vrolijk_21: .
