radio crackling after an hour
« on: September 06, 2010, 12:51:13 PM »

My 2000 SE Road Glide just started with a crackling noise after an hour of riding, it's a stock radio with pioneer speakers installed about 5 years ago, its does it sitting still or moving, when it starts after about an hour, it only does it at 2000+ RPM, I've checked all the connections and wires and all looks good, any tips???

I had trouble with my Radio Sound on my 2000 SERG a few months ago,  it turned out to be a bad ground.  I had called John at Radio Sound and he walked me through finding the problem and helped me fix it right over the phone.  Give him a call,  it is some of the best service you will ever recieve. Radio Sound (HD's vendor of radios pre-'06 model year) phone no.:  (502) 267-6768; ask for customer service; John.

Thanks Marty, I'll try calling him and go through the wiring again, was the ground on yours under the fairing? Did yours start acting up after you rode a little, then constant after it started? and fine at an idle?

Mine was a more intermittent problem, and the ground wire I had trouble with was under the faring, from the radio, travelling back through the tunnel to the tank.

Marty,
Thanks for the info, I'm going to get the wiring stamatic out and check out where the ground runs, maybe add another ground instead of tearing the whole bike apart, Thanks again!!!

Your welcome John  :)  When you get a chance you should go to the New Member Introduction and introduce yourself to the board.  Also if you let me know which color SERG you have I will add you to the2000 SERG owners / Site Registry
