Another garage door opener question
« on: February 07, 2010, 11:58:21 AM »

In earlier post I mentioned I was going to buy a used reciever for my garage door opener for my 06 se ultra I just purchased. I have recieved the reciever from ebay and now ready to try to install it. I read some old post on here how to wire the reciever to the push button on the wall station. Well my wall unit doesn't have any wires with screw post just a small soldered board. So I'm afraid I might mess something up there trying to soldier those small wires. I heard of some just wiring it straight to the drive unit. I have a wayne dalton i-drive system and it has some slots on the right side to add something. I still have the instructions for the unit and it says the slots on the side are for photoelectic sensors. Would that work with the harley reciever. That are six slots I belive and a place you have to put a jumper.

Thanks Joecool

you have to have a wall switch?

follow the wires to to opener and attach receiver wires to the post the the wall switch attaches to.

power should be there also

re-check the manual.  Two of those posts should be for wires dealing with the garage door not the saftey reflectors/ eyes or what ever they call them.  Otherwise check your unit out online and see if they can tell you how to hard wire an opener to it.

Hope this helps,

Just looked at your manufacturer's website and all the documented accessories are wireless for your unit.  No mention in any docs of a wired control point.  If that ends up being accurate you won't be able to use the new kit you bought.

Until proved otherwise that seems an unlikely alternative.  Wired control points have existed on any GDO I've ever seen (documented or not).

Look on your motor unit.  You mentioned some number of small screws.  See how they're marked watching for any clue as to a pair that would do something if shorted together.  Worth a call to the mftr during business  hours.

While I'd not recommend this to anyone else if I were farting with it on a Sunday I'd also just take a pair of needle nose pliers and quickly short across pairs of those small screws looking for a pair that engaged the motor.  When it engages you've found where the two wires go.

Twolanerider, you crack me up.  I can imagine myself in the garage all pissed off about the situation on a ladder and getting a little poke and falling off the ladder and well...Maybe have a few beers and see what happens. If nothing happens, well you had a few beers.

Just remember, I went through this about 10 months ago. I finally figured out that my unit had a bad post where the two wires go into the receiver. I picked up a new receiver from a member and BOOM! It worked.  But I too tried to wire this thing up 7 ways from Sunday and NOTHING. I can understand you frustrations.

You wire the output from the receiver to the PB and Common terminals at the drive on the W-D opener.

OK the garage door opener is now working. I called the tech support nm for wayne dalton garage doors and these guys are great. If you have a  i-drive unit  like mine it has 5 slots on the right side of the unit. Just hook the 2 wires from the harley unit to 1 and 3 . Works great thanks for all the replies you guys are great too.
