HD will gladly sell you a "Premium Sound System" booklet for about $10 (I think).  Its 40 pages long, first 20 pages covers not only the radio controls but handlebar switches as well. Last 20 pages covers CB and intercom.  Shame that top of the line bike in 2000 did not come with proper instructions in the owner's manual.

Ask for part # 99464-00

If you have a specific question I'll try to help.

There's not much to program.  Hold in the left side button and a few options will present.  After that toggle through and select.  Play with the radio buttons (on each side) just a bit.  It'll get real obvious real quick.

Thanks for the replies, after messing around with it I think I have everything figured out.
One thing I cannot figure out is when you program the presets, is it
True the only way to toggle through those is to actually reach up and
Push those buttons or is there some way to use the hand controls that I have
Not figured out yet?

That's a great question. What a PIA it is to have to reach the radio to select a preset station when the thumb control only moves the selection one station at a time. I'd like to know this too.

Far as I know you cannot jump from one preset radio station to another with the handlebar switches.

Thumb control only seeks from one available station to the next.  Pre-selects are only at the buttons on the face of the radio.  That's probably why I've never used them.  Plus I'm not that much of an in-town rider.  So the pre-selects wouldn't work too long before being beyond range on most rides anyway.

You would if you had satellite radio. This reinforces my purchase of an electraglide. Having to reach a road glide radio to change presets would require an extravehicular excursion across the tank with cruise control on.

I make that long reach with some regularity.  To turn the radio off when it gets boring/annoying/drowns out the sound of the road.

I had sat radio for a couple years ending about five years ago.  It was annoying too (to me).  The non-commercial commercials that were then getting more and more prevalent bugged the hell out of me.  My own local mp3 content always makes me happier.

I'm with you Twolane, I think my Mp3 will be my main source of tunes.

For me it works.  I'd rather hear my own 200 or so favorites over and over then three or four of mine out of every three hours of other commercial/musical blather.

Hey, just a thought to avoid some potential confusion if you go the MP3 route and use the aux port on the front of the radio.  Later (and some earlier) Harleys with the aux port all make sense.  When you plug something in the aux port the display will be "AUX" when you switch to that mode.  On our 2000s it will say CD.  The aux mode can be tied to an external CD deck that was an accessory that could go in the tour pak.  Don't let it confuse you.  It's still the AUX mode no matter what it says.

At least we have the port as an option.  The guys with the 01 SE Road Glides got the external CD rack in the tour pak (it wasn't terribly reliable).  But with it installed the AUX port on the front of the radio becomes a dummy port.
