TTS MasterTune - Closed Loop
« on: January 23, 2010, 01:47:07 PM »

I'm just about ready to purchase a TTS MasterTuner but have a question that I'm sure someone can answer. Bike is a 2010 FLHX.  The OEM stock map sets the closed loop AFR to 14.6 - 1.  I know that this value can be changed via the lamda value but my question is this: "Does the VTune option work in closed loop mode to suggest a new closed loop AFR value"?

There are many help files with Mastertune, one is maybe an answer to your question:

What does VE Tuning Accomplish?

The VTune process is used to calibrate the ECM’s VE tables such that the desired AFR is obtained under all riding conditions.  After the VE tables are calibrated for your engine build, the AFR can be adjusted to the desired mix of performance and economy, and the ECM will maintain these values.

By tuning the values in the VE table to be as close to ideal as possible, the amount of adjustment that the ECM must perform is minimized.  This results in reduction of settling time and a smoother, more responsive engine.

I hope this helps a little.

Hogmike,

I downloaded the Tuning Guide from TTS's web site.  Based on your reply it appears that if I follow the instructions in section 4 (Detailed Tuning Procedure) I will be able to accomplish my goal (richer AFR in closed loop) thus lowering the engine operating temperature.

THANKS!

As you get ready to V-Tune you set the Lambda table to a value of .981...this equals an AFR of 14.4 which is perfect for synchronizing the VE tables.
Once the V-Tune is completed simple set the lambda Table back to Original....if you still want to run the closed loop area richer set the Lambda table to a lower value....there is a converter on the tool bar of the Master Tune to show you what Lambda values equate to AFR ratios.
1.00 Lambda is 14.68 AFR, .989 is 14.5, .981 is 14.4, .977 equals 14.3.

Doc, thanks a lot for your useful input, but could you expand a little on the procedure between quote signs. Why is it necessary?

Thanks

Im thinking of setting the throttle  % value table to be linear like a cable bike.
Has anyone tried this with the fly by wire ? Dont know if this would bogg down the bike.

Thanks

check with Jamie for a perfect and inexpensive map. Good advice even if you don't purchase anything. http://fuelmotousa.com/home.htm  :2vrolijk_21:

I got my '09 and the '10 TBW set to 1:1, no lag.
Worked fine for me!

Well when you V-Tune you have to set the Lambda table all to closed loop (as far as the code will let you) once yo are finished synchronizing the VE tables with the V-Tune process you don't want the whole Lambda table in closed loop any more so if you set it back to the original Lambda map setting you will get a good cruise afr and under a load the ECM will give you more fuel where it is needed.
