OMG, what an awesome machine it is.  If you've never seen one up close and personal (especially during its takeoff roll), well it is impossible to describe.  And to think this wonderful aircraft has been in our arsenal for six decades from the cold war armed with nukes ready to go at a moments notice, to being retrofitted to carry 500 pound conventional bombs during Vietnam, to providing pinpoint precision bombing during Desert Storm.  It has done it all and still remains a potent force.

I had the great good fortune (and privilege) to be with SAC assigned to the 454th Bombardment Wing, Heavy, in Columbus, Mississippi for two years and during that time spent two TDY tours in Guam with the Buffs in support of operation ARC Light during the height of the Vietman war.  This was the original 'rolling thunder' when they were doing carpet bombing.

We can disagree with political leaders as to the proper role and use of our military but we can all stand proud in support of the wonderful professionals who crew and support these machines, and I certainly do so.

I took a shot of a B-52, B-1, and B-2 in formation a few years back. That's America......

Awesome video! Had the opportunity to crawl around in a B-52 at Ellsworth AFB in Rapid City when I was in high school in 1972. It was a weekend sponsored by the South Dakota National Guard. Incredible experience. We also got to see the training site for the Minute Man Missile teams. Very cool experience for a young kid. Lived in Grand Forks (on purpose) for 3 years in the late 70's. got to see a lot of ops out of GF AFB. Lived in San Diego for 5 years in the late 80's and drove right by Miramar on I-15 every day. Always amazing seeing the F-14's and other supporting aircraft come and go. My wife supported the military for AT&T and got to be friends with many of the pilots that flew in "Top Gun". She even got us on the USS Nimitz for a trip from San Diego to Long Beach. Got to see flight ops and experience the magnificence of a nuclear powered carrier. Simply amazing experiences for a guy who never served in the military. Have alway had immense respect for those who do and have served our country in any branch of the military. They are true heroes and deserve our respect and support!

When you think about the service life of the B-52 it makes you realize how productive and capable our government can be. I don't believe many weapons systems have had as long and productive a life.
