HOG Website Hacked
« on: February 06, 2010, 04:37:52 AM »

www.oxfordukchapter.com has been hacked into by turkish / middle
eastern people out of shere badness as these type of people apparently
target Harley Davidson websites.

The software that was used to design and build the website is now old
and out of date and is no longer supported by updates

The website has things known as 'permissions' set on it that will allow
any unscrupulous person to 'hack' into any part of the website as these
'permisssions' have been set to 'On'.  This is part of the security of
the joomla system (the website is built using joomla)

The long and the short of it is:

To get the website back to where it was will cost approx £50.

However, should it be restored to the way it was, and as the website
software is out of date, there is nothing to stop it being hacked again.

The truth is that it is best now to move forward and start from scratch
and kiss goodbye to the original version as it was out of date and did
not have the necessary security.

So, the answer is to look at the following:

WE WILL HAVE TO START OVER SO BE AWARE ANY WEBMASTERS !!!

Do you know who the hackers were and their motives.  I'd submit all hackers do so out of meanness.  Anyway this is a broad indictment of a whole bunch of folks and if true so be it.  but if speculation then consider a modification to your post.

There was an individual or group that in the past has hacked sites, when they take over the site they do so by placing middle eastern phrases, chants, and other items that would indicate they were middle eastern extremist.

My intension was / is to make the fact of awareness to other folk who for the benefit for others provide free a social non malicious website that this type of attack is being circulated. Far be it from my capabilities to trace from where it came but from i choose to accept the belief of the information that was provided to us . I also would accept that it probably came from a small group of exremists like most other unwanted inconveniences.
