XM Interference from triple fairing pouch?
« on: March 16, 2010, 11:51:43 PM »

I tried searching for this particular problem but no joy.  I can't believe no one else has had this.

Bought and mounted the triple fairing pouch, and since then, XM reception comes and goes every 2-3 seconds whenever the bike is pointed east.  In any other direction, it's fine, so it has to be related to the position of the satellites and the antenna's "view" of them.  It was fine before mounting the pouches.  From what I've read the XM antenna is mounted on top of the HK stereo unit.  My thought is that the metal base of the pouches is interfering with it.  Has anyone else run into this?

I'm guessing I'll need to relocate the antenna as others have done.

Thanks for any help...

On last two bikes I moved the antenna outside of the fairing and mounted it with double sided tape on the flat part beside the windshield on the left side. Rarely lose signal.

My XM reception didn't seem to change with the triple pouch, but it makes some sense that it could interfere.

Interesting concept! I've had my 3 pouch so long I had not given it much thought but unless  I'm on a completely unobstructed road (no hills, trees, shrubs, cows) mine does cuts in and out every few seconds too. Rarley use XM though unless the Ipod takes a dump. Let us know if moving it changes anything.

I put the tweeter bar on my bike and had same reception issues. I moved my antenna. it is still inside the fairing but it now sits on the outer left edge. used velcro tape

Here is what I did.  Turns out the antenna contains a pretty strong magnet, and the triple fairing pouch has this steel baseplate.  So...

On my 2008 Ultra Classic I put the antenna on top of the left side speaker, works good, and it is still inside of the fairing.

Left side of the bike is your left side when sitting on the bike.

The left side when you are sitting on the bike it turns into the right ride if your are standing and facing the bike.  :nixweiss: :nixweiss: so I was just asking to make sure...    :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:   Thanks anyway maybe we should just use Port & Starboard :-\ :-\

Here's an easy way to remember it.  You put your left turn signal on to turn left.  If you put your right turn signal on to turn left, you may have a problem...and vice versa works too.   :orange: :orange: :coolblue:

Global warming is already solved.  Keep the Harley moving constantly at 60 to 70 miles an hour and warming will not be an issue.  Enjoy the ride!
