Please can somebody post a photo of this "cupping"?  Been around tyres for over 40 years, and it's a term I've never heard before, so I'm having trouble visualising it....   6000 miles on my tyres, and can't see any abnormal wear.  :nixweiss:

The picture of the tyre at reply #77 in this thread you mean? http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=34891.0;all

Nothing like that on mine, I'm pleased to say.

Yep, post #77 covers it but that pic was mild compared to mine.  Also on the outer edges.  Funny thing, on my rear, the center was good but the sides cupped like he!!.

Kind of suggests that the recommended pressures are wrong... :nixweiss:

bandit;
  I'll see what I can do!  I'm in pretty good with the service writer so....

61bbltop;
  I put Metzler M880's on my Dyna because I heard good things about them.  For a fair weather tire it was ok, but in wet coditions it was really slippery.  The first time I had about 2000 miles on the tires and it was a heavy mist.  Just wet enough to get the bike dirty.  When I took corners ( really easy since it was wet) I felt the rear fishtail slightly (my butt puckered)  so I took it a little easier.  Took a hard left at a light and the rear really fishtailed.
  This happened a couple time over the next few weeks.  2 months later we had a ride and there was a low spot where water crossed the road.  Been across it many times on Dunlops.  It can be slippery but if you just roll nicelly through it...  Well Here I am on the Dyna and just on the other side the rear end let loose and swung to the left.  I pulled in the clutch, slammed on the front brake and did a 270 with the bike resting on the right side on the pipes.   Shortly thereafter I put Dunlops back on.

Highjagger.  it definately was a D407 I bought.

That is totally opposite of my experiance on my 03 Fatboy.  Never liked the dunlops in the wet, or pavement with groves.  ME880's did better in the rain and did not track groves like the dunlops.  I did find that on pavement colder than 45 degrees the metzlers were slick.

sblair,

Wow, that's too bad about the ME880 wet performance.  These 407s are like velcro in wet conditions...I tried to activate (test) my abs out here on a country flat road by grabbing the binders as hard as I could and she stopped like I hit the trap on an aircraft carrier!    And NO ABS activation!

I have felt it though when down shifting smartly and the drag of the tranny along with applying the rear brake activated it.

It's just too bad they cup.  I wonder if anyone out there with the new 408s is getting cupping?
I like the 408's on the SERG better than the dunlops that were on my 03 Fatboy.  I also believe they are a little better than the metzler 880s I now have on the fatboy

I have 8500 on mine and the dealer noticed the cupping on my rear tire. I really felt it after the recall check of the rear rim. The tire must not have been fully inflated before the recall check. But after the recall was done and the tire was re inflated, I took the bike home and when making a low speed hard left or right hand turn it almost felt like I was going over rumble strips. Took the bike right back to the dealer and they immediately ordered me a new tire. I was polishing my rims the other day and I can really see the cupping of the tire. Every other section of the tire was 3/16 to a 1/4 different in hieght. Will be having the new rubber installed next week.............................Fuzz

Tried to get bck back tire warrantied by dealer and Moco customer service.  Both no-go.  Dealer said no, that they were not do in it on back tires for cupping.  Moco said to many miles 11,000.  Let's Roll
