Reuseable Oil Filters
« on: April 08, 2010, 01:32:18 PM »

Saw this on one of the PowerBlock shows on TNN last weekend.
Since then, I've found a couple different places that make these.
Has anyone used a reuseable oil filter?
Here's the website;

Does anyone know what the micron rating is on an HD oil filter?

Thanks,

I have been using a Pure Power reusable filter for a couple of years. Took it off my trade in and will use it on the new bike. Well made unit. :)

It's rated at 5 microns, which doesn't necessarily mean it won't pass particles larger than 5 microns.  Do a web search on micron ratings and SAE or ASTM and you'll find some articles that explain those ratings.

As for those metal mesh filters, take all the advertising hype with a huge grain of salt.  They are really designed to reduce parasitic power losses by reducing restriction through the filter, and not to offer the very best filtration.  Notice in the ads they mention racing organizations like Formula 1, NASCAR, etc.   They don't mention that those folks don't care about long term wear, they rebuild the engines after every race.  And most don't use their filters anyway, because they have sponsorships from folks like Wix and Motorcraft and Fram.  So like I said, educate yourself on oil filtration and then read those ads again.  Spotting the "omissions" and misleading statements will be much easier.

BTW, there are existing threads on the Pure Power and K&P filters, try a site search for those.
