Intermitant Alarm Problem
« on: April 06, 2010, 08:56:20 AM »

its an 09 bike with the smart key fob. I can walk up to the bike and it will start. Five minutes later I walk up to the bike and try to start the bike and all I get is an alarm I have to shut off with the manual switches. I have changed key fob batteries , swapped pockets with the key fob and left my cell phone on the work bench. The dealer cant find the problem although they have heard the same complaints. Has anyone seen this before ? And whats the fix ?
Thanks,

Hey David
Does it happen anywhere or just when you are parked somewhere in particular. The reason I ask is that we have a particular Petro Canada gas station in my city that does the same thing to HD bikes when you pull into it.  You can pull in , shut off the bike  to fuel up but when you turn the ignition to the on position the alarms go crazy. Push the bike 30 feet so you are nowhere near the pumps and all is well. Must be some sort of rf interference in this instance. :confused5: :confused5:
Just a thought.

There is a place in Stillwater, OK that has some radio interference and you have to move the bike with the alarm screaming or use the code to start it if you park there.

Its started happening in rons driveway and his garage. The harley shop cant get it to duplicate after two tows.
If it comes back home with the same problem he`s going to have the service mrg drive over and take a look.
Looks like with the electronics on it it thinks it`s a toyota   :alcohol:

Sure makes a person long for the not-so-long-ago days of manual button fobs.  I've never had a major problem with that type of security system, but there sure seems to be a lot of issues with the new system.

Whether or not it's interference causing these problems, you need to insist that H-D fix the problem.  They have to "engineer" their systems to work in the world as it is, not expect the world to change just for them.  And yes, I know they probably can't "engineer" their way out of a wet paper bag.  Fortunately for them, the folks they buy all that stuff from still have some engineers on the payroll.  All H-D has to do is agree to pay for the fix (that will be much harder to accomplish).

I have the same problem when i park at work in a certain area...gotta be some sort of radio frequency interference. My '03 did the same thing, of course i had the option to not use the alarm.

Has anyone ever discovered if (assuming would require setup via digital technician) the older TSSM are interchangeable with the newer modules?  I'd not be a fan of the newer alarm systems that don't give owner the choice of how he/she wants to arm and use the system.  Would prefer to use the fob if swapping out the TSSMs made this an option.
