Rode a 2010 Ultra Classic Limited, was very impressed!
« on: April 15, 2010, 09:25:53 AM »

A guy I work with bought a new Ultra Limited. I took it for a ride yesterday and man I was impressed.  It was my first ride on a new frame bike and it rides completely different than the old one.  I had a 2006 SE Ultra and it didn't compare in ride and handling of this new Ultra.  This bike rode like a Cadillac, literally.  It also did not feel nearly as top heavy as the '06.  It did not seem much heavier than my Road King, even with the tour pack on the Ultra.

This has me thinking...... do the SE Ultras '09 and '10 ride as well as the Limited?  Can someone who has rode both chime in here?  How does the SE Street Glide ride in comparison to the SE Ultra?  I thought I would never trade my Road King, but I was so impressed with the ride of this bike I am entertaining the new frame.  Also, my wife rode with me on the Limited and she really liked it.  She liked the '06 Ultra we had, but it was just too top heavy for me.  I was never comfortable riding it around town.

Input from anyone that has rode any or all of these would be greatly appreciated.

Love my 09 cuse 4...night and day over the old frame..fatter rear and stiff swing arm make a big difference.  I have had no rear steer on this bike.  Now if they could get them running right with good chrome and some technology built onto them...I would consider another one.  The fixed over bar mounted fairings debate can rage on...Taller folks may like the fixed better as the bat wing is in your face and the fixed is not.  I have ridden both and am undecided.   :drink:

I just can't fall in love with the shark nose.  The '09 orange SERG is pretty sharp, but I don't want to own one.  The new blacked out Ultra looks cool in the pics, but it appears they're going to be mega bucks and mega limited in quantity.  Maybe I will find one in about 2 or 3 years at a reasonable price.

I  loved my 05 cherry but after putting almost 3,000 miles on the citrus, I wouldn't go back.

The new touring bikes (09 and 10) are head and shoulders above the earlier touring bikes in terms of ride (not to mention the plus of having ABS brakes).  I am definately not going back to an earlier model after having one of these babies.  So comfortable I have had trouble staying awake on longer runs.  I would recommend anyone moving up to the newer model touring bikes.

I test rode 2010 cvo Ultra today and all I can say is WOW! I talked to the local dealer and am definitely interested in upgrading to the new touring frame.  The cvo ultra doesn't quite ride as cadillac smooth as the Ultra Limited, but I just can't bring myself to go back to a non-cvo. I really like the look of the Street Glide and the dealer has a blue one coming in a few weeks. He's supposed to call me when it comes in for a test ride.  I really like the spiced rum color of the Street Glide.

However, after adding up the amount of money I have in my Road King trading it is not an option.  Since I have nothing but time on my hands, I am going to post my Road King in the for sale section and if it brings what I want I will buy a new bike, and if it doesn't I still really like my Road King and may buy a Limited in a couple of years once the Road King is paid for.  Everyone needs 2 baggers right?

At least!
I figure you need one hot-rod bagger, one stock bike to take to club runs, one outfitted for long-distance touring......Hmmmm.....maybe one for show?

I reckon you'll get more bang for the buck having an SE103 kit installed in a standard '09 or '10 touring bike than going for the Limited. The latter uses the stock 96 cams, pistons and air cleaner instead of the better performing 255 cams, flat top pistons and Stage 1 A/C that the SE103 kit includes.

I think that was the one he was talking about.
IMO, I can't really tell the difference between the 96" and the 103" BUT, my 96" may have had a "Monday" engine, and my 103" was probably a "Friday" engine!!! :nixweiss:

Putting new cams in the 103 is supposed to make it run a lot better.

How does the SE Street Glide ride in comparison to the SE Ultra?  Input from anyone that has rode any or all of these would be greatly appreciated.

I bought my first HD last year - a 2010 SESG (Spiced Rum).  The bike was AWESOME to say the least.  It handled well, and was pretty nimble in the curves.  Didn't bottom out easily, and on long hauls was pretty comfortable.  Feel a need for speed, give it some gas and it responds.  I added the SE heavy breather, some FatShotz pipes, and a leather tour pack and that was it.   Mine had some issues with high oil pressure, but never had anything go wrong- dealer very responsive.  Saddle had an issue in that the pan didn't have enough reinforcement, so it sagged to the point there was a pretty significant separation between the nose and the tank plate.  Dealer wouldn't budge so I bought a new saddle and "poof" the problem was gone.  Performance-wise it was a screamer from red light to red light and a solid ride from Atlanta to Memphis and back.

Bought a 2010 SEUC in February of this year.  It is nothing like the SESG.  The ride is a lot smoother, it has amazing handling, and got enough room to pack a house.  Same 110 motor as the SG, so plenty of power at the grip.  Little heavier than the SESG, but you wouldn't notice it after first gear.  I loved the SG, but the Ultra is by far the better ride in my book.  My only "complaint" is that both bikes had such tame exhaust - I wish they had put something on them to give them a true Harley sound, but they were waiting for me with open arms at the parts counter when I showed up.........
