Has anyone used a Dunlop E3 tire. My friend put them on his bike and the rear tire has 16,000 miles on it and still going.

Not yet, but I'm getting ready to have new E3's installed front and rear in the immediate future.  I'm not aware of any huge difference in expected tire mileage, I just want a better tread pattern that doesn't follow grooves as much as the D402's.

I went to E3 from Metzeler on my '03 Road King. Rear tire mileage went from an average of 6k on the Metz to around 10k on the E3 (I'm tough on tires). I wish I could get the E3 for my SERG3 but it is unavailable in the sizes I need.

Goldwing riders have been running E3's for years now getting great milage out of them, not unheard to get 20,000 plus on front 15,000 on rear, providing you keep the air pressure correct.

Muddypaws, I received the Dunlop Brochure showing the "American Elite " tires to fit touring bikes 2009 models and newer in sizes 130/80B17 and 180/65B16. The brochure doesn't say if they are available now, but it does say that they will be coming out with more sizes to fit other HD models later in 2010. There is another thread on this with a link to Sport Tour LTD. Their web site is sporttour.com/tires/dunlop-american-elite.htm I haven't contacted them because I am not ready for tires yet, but they are advertising them for sale. CAHDBIKER

I have my rear wheel and tire off right now to take to the HD dealer tomorrow for unfortunately another 407.  Everyone of the internet ads for the 180 65 16 dunlop elite that I called, including the one mentioned here said unavailable until end of August.
The few that have tried the Metzler me880's have been saying don't expect too many miles out of them.
If you can wait (which I can not) you should have some good options in about 4 months.
