Thanks Alan

From your post am unsure what you're wanting to accomplish?  Just remove the lowers?  Remove the engine guard?  Or remove the guard and replace it with something else?

For all of the above you have to remove the lowers.  Find the cap on the top of the lowers.  Two screws hold it to the lower itself.  Then look inside the storage compartment.  You'll find a nut.  It has to be removed also.  Another bolt and nut down at the bottom that tightens against a clamp that goes around the crash bar.  Find those spots on both sides and the lowers are off.

If you're planning on some aftermarket engine guard like the Lindby bars you'll not be able to use the lowers any longer.  If you're just wanting to remove the guard entirely the lowers won't be going back on either of course.

If none of that touches on what you're trying to accomplish try the question one more time.

Does the engine guard (crash bar) not also support the fairing   :nixweiss:  If you are replacing it with something after market, be sure it is designed for a Road Glide  :nixweiss:

Indirectly.  Support brackets go from the crash bar up to the fairing.  If wanting to remove the crash bar for aesthetic reasons he'd have to replace with what's basically a top stub.  Bolts on where the bar would have on the top to begin with and sticks out far enough to each side to support those brackets.  Anyone who ever has or ever might drop a bike should really think twice about removing the crash bars though.

The right side of the engine guard did its job.
I ordered a new one to put back on. I should leave
the lower fairin off for the summer? there did look
like something was attach on the top part of the
engine guard, I don't know if its the turn signal, or
support for the fairin. I don't have all the manuals yet.
My thanks again for the help.
