why cant you add new oil to oil with 2500 miles what will happen will it not blend together, iam not doing this to save money , it is just getting the bike to dealer a pain and on some weekends i mite put 2000 miles on it, long hot hours on that oil, just stopping for gas , i just thought it would help to freshin the oil

Jim, it won't hurt a thing as long as you use the same oil (don't mix brands or types as the additive packages may not be compatible).  It just isn't usually necessary unless you have some very severe special circumstances, and if you've "cooked" the oil that badly I'd suggest it makes a lot more sense to change it completely as well as the filter. 

If you can handle draining and filling the oil yourself to do your suggested partial change, it doesn't take that much more to do the entire oil change.  You don't need a dealer for that.

I changed the oil in my 97 E350  7.3l diesel over to Amsoil 15w-40 after 10,500 miles or so. After 5k I sent the oil out of the filter in for analysis. Reply...fine for another 5K

After 100K of doing the same filter drop,  every 5k, top off with 2 qts I decided to start going 12,500miles

Continued the oil anylisis at 200k, 300k 400k and 500k with only dropping the filter and adding enough oil to top off

Finally had to drain the pan, for the first time at 548k, rear main seal leak. Sent in for analysis and awaiting results
