Kuryakyn curved license plate frame- will this one work?
« on: May 22, 2010, 11:49:45 PM »

http://www.kuryakyn.com/index.cfm/go/Home.ProductDetail/IMID/405

According to their fitment list, it looks like it will work on my 2009 SERG, but I thought I read some threads about guys drilling their fenders to make this fit (mind you, I think this was the one with the integrated licence plate light), so I called Kuryakyn, and they said that they don't make a curved plate frame for the SERG (yet the link above shows it will fit)  :confused5:

Anyone have the one in the link (part number 3163) on their SERG?

This is the one a majority of us have used http://www.kuryakyn.com/index.cfm/go/Home.ProductDetail/catID/12/scID/25/IMID/1457
Yes you have to drill the fender and it comes with a led light.  Don't worry about drilling.  it's all hidden by the plate and if ever you have the crazy idea of going back to stock, it will also be covered.  There are holes there anyways, what's a couple more.  Also the led connection is a one way deal if you connect the wires and it doesn't work then switch the 2 wires and it should. Of course do it before you get it all button up.

here is some more info.

Yeh, I'd be interested in seeing if anyone had used this plate mount too.  Is it a new product? Or one they have had for a while?  Looks like it might fit without drilling any holes, but I'm not sure which look I like the best.

I used the 9182 with LED lighting this one says it fits and likely will without drilling? The drawback for my experience is

1) it will require retention of the bulbous licence plate light

2) it will stand off the fender (a less clean look)

3) may expose the unfinished bracket mounting bolt at the bottom of the plate bracket creating another issue to deal with.

This still may be a good option for those unwilling to drill the fender?(it took some serious nerve)

I think this fits a road glide / street glide custom not a CVO.

I think this fits a road glide / street glide custom not a CVO.

That could be the difference!

Doesn't work with a CVO. It needs a light bar to mount to our lights are in the fender fillers.

thanks for all the info guys. I don't want to remove the stock chrome light housing, and don't want to drill any holes, so I guess I'll just look for some cool looking regular chrome frame for now.

old subject..... so old we are talking about it again, yes it fits, however you just had to drill the plate to match the holes in the stock set up,

Thanks again. I reconsidered- I found an indy that comes highly recommended, so I have ordered the 9182, and will have him install it for me (don't want to drill it myself either), along with some other work.
