Ignition timing
« on: May 31, 2010, 08:48:59 PM »

Has anyone worked with step increases with there timing? I have been playing with advancing the timing through out the rpm range for my richer fuel maps. I noticed a big response in the lower rpm ranges for quicker respnse (2-3 adv @ 40-80 % throttle). My questions is with the andrews 54s how far can I step up the timing? I went to an adv of 4 @ 80 to 100 % throttle and I still havent pinged yet.

You can do data logging with SERT or TTS and determine if the Delphi ION sensing is being hit for corrections. The Delphi will pull 5 in a heartbeat and you will not hear detonation but the gains from advanced timing will be culled as well. Better to get it right and stay away from the cusp. Gas chamges as does the weather so be careful.

Disable the knock sensor and ride it hard until its good and hot. Engine temp is everything when pushing timing limits.

That worked, staying at a 5 advance @ 100 % throttle, lite ping at 6. Those 54's like that advance. It takes off like a slingshot @ 3000 rpm's. I wouldn't advise that advance unless you are using a heavy map tho. Thanks again.
