Yep, mine does the same thing Jock. The radios compensate for a weak signal by switching to mono to reduce static. Mine has done it since new. I just figured it was no big deal since I don't listen to the radio much at all. I use the HD MP3 player the most then cd's.

Sorry I don't have the answer, I think the receiver in the radios are just not very good. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Jim do you think it's the receiver or the antenna not being very effective?

I can't say as I've ever experienced it.  I occassionally listen to FM but have never noticed that problem (I have the Dakota Digital hidden antenna).  However, I have noticed it using my iPod Nano and it's in the jack.  Push the cable in firmly and it's fine.

Come to think of it, I haven't noticed it since I got rid of the Radio Shack cable and replaced it with a Monster cable. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]  It's all good, now.

With multiple folks reporting the problem I'd go with receiver too.  The difference in receivers from brand to brand is unbeliveable.  It's a constant issue in our auto service department.

Tough to get really good reception on weak or distant stations when the bike doesn't have much mass, vehicles with more mass tend to have the best reception.

So that's why the radio on the bike works so much better when my ass is in the seat?  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]
