Just assuming.  Haven't lost compression but you can see some oil on the plug threads.  I check my plugs all the time while i tune the bike so they are in and out alot.  Plus doing all this cam stuff they have been in and out more to adjust the push rods.

the other night i went and put all the original cam plate and old cams back in the bike to see if there was any different in the sound.  I can still hear a little sound in the same rpm range just not nearly as loud.  So i am guessing it must be something touching in the heads.  Guessing maybe rockers or something.  Thought maybe there was some piston slap but wouldnt' think changing the cams back would make that any quieter.  I will admit there is a big difference in power going from the woods tw5 back to the se 253.  So i guess i am going to have to pull the heads off and see what i can find in there.  Its always like a where's waldo search  or you just wait till you really break something.

Look for witness marks, hitting
Piston to valve
Cam lobe to lifter boss or pinion side bearing boss
All clear, then on to plan B

Inside the cam houseing i found nothing touching or hitting anywhere.  Was no marks on the old cams or plate.  Had the new cams and plate in for about 300 miles no marks or anything on them either.  Guess the noise was there before just didn't notice it till i put the new cams in.  Just made it alot louder.  Thats why i figured must be something in the heads valve train.

Might have to explain the witness marks hitting.  Not sure what i am suppose to be lookign for there.

if your using the screaming eagle lifters that could be the issue (check the wheels and axles), I've had 2 sets fail (and know of other failures), they don't stand up well to aggressive ramp cams (like the woods) I was using a leinweber t7s. I went with fueling lifters in my current build and a bit milder cam (leinweber t5s). But i have less than 5k on new motor with no problems.

i am running the woods lifters also.  Just got a top end gasket set for it today.  Going to rip the motor down and see what i find.  Hopefully i will see that the lower or upper rocker box is hitting somewhere so i can just grind some of it away.  We shall see what i find.  All i know is i am putting the woods cams back in.  Its a gutless wonder with the se 253s.

I thought i might of found the problem when i took the rocker boxes down to the heads.  I found the rear intake springs were touching the rocker box.  So i clearanced the front and back ones.  Put everything back together and still the same damn noise in the front jug.  I guess all i am down to now is piston slap or something i couldn't find in the valve guides or something.  Thing runs great just makes damn noise in the front jug.  I guess i will see how bad it is when i leave for montana next week.  If it doesn't blow up in the 4k miles its just noise i have to live with till winter.

Well i am finding a whole lot of nothing still.  Started tearing the bike down.  Pulled the heads and the valves and springs out.  They all looked good.  The cylenders look perfect still all the cross hatching there and no piston play.  No clue what else to be looking for.  I am guessing the crank is the only think left that could have a problem.
