shocks for FLHXSE
« on: May 31, 2010, 02:57:43 PM »

I'm hoping someone can lead me in the right direction.i got rid of my stock shocks without fully giving them a chance.i now have a set of 11" Harley air shocks(they were factory length before being shortened to 11"). anyway, they are the biggest pieces of crap i have ever ridden on. i am 5'6" short and ride two up most of the time with a combined weight of 285lbs without any gear/luggage.does anyone have any suggestions for a good/very good shock that is 12" or less that will perform well? thanks  also, i would like to use Progressive cartridges in the front. does anyone know if the front of these bikes already have lowered front suspension or what length they are? i am not sure which set to use.thanks

I'd recommend the Progressive 940's on the rear and Progessive Monotubes on the front.

What do you not like about the 11" shocks? Are they 12" shocks that were shorten to 11''? I would like to lower my SERG 1'' more.

they are shocks that have been shortened. right now i am bottoming out to easily.i talked to the company that "shortened" my shocks this afternoon and they stand behind their product 100%!!!!. they are building me a new set starting tomorrow. 11.5" this time, but, they are also using different parts/springs/etc.and all this is being done at NO cost to me except 12.00 shipping.the company's name is PHOENIX CUSTOMS/BITCHEN BAGGERS. check 'em out. great people. i don't even have to send my shocks back until i receive my new ones

Are you sure your shocks are bottoming out, and not topping out? I had a set of lowered shock on my '09 Street Glide that I couldn't stand until I tracked down the actual cause. I kept adjusting firmer, but was only making the ride harsher. What I found (with the help of a Flip video camera and time) was the shock was topping out, not bottoming out (feels/sounds the same) There is no replacement for shock travel!!! I went back to the factory length shock and all was well. They were Progressive 440's and they swapped them out no problem after about 45 days of ride time. I don't really have a height issue, so it was a no brainer for me. I did end up with the Heavy Duty versions, because Im 265lbs, by my self and 400-420 with BSR and TP. Just something to check before you lay out more cash.

I had Progressive 11.5 440's on my SESG for a little while and the ride got really harsh. Put the stock shocks back and had the Corbin seat modified. Almost as good as the short shocks, with a way better ride.

I will second this!!!!
I have this set up on my bike and it is no comparison to stock. Much much improved.
Ride quality is awesome.

If you have stock suspension on your bike, this will lower it a half inch.

All the 940s are one size which is technically 13" with a sag to 12".  On a non Street Glide, you get one inch lower.  On a Street Glide, you notice no difference, except that now we have one inch more travel in the up direction I believe.
They ride great.

These are supposed to lower a stock bike 1 inch which would be 12".
I measured before and after install and it raised my bike 1/2". Mine
came with 12" shocks also.

I like the taller height, the lean angle is better in the curves.

They are supposed to lower a stock Ultra by 1" which would be 12"....SESG's already come with 12" shocks.
