Why Not More Cruise Control Installed
« on: July 08, 2010, 10:21:26 AM »

Does anyone have ideas on why HD doesn't install, or make optional, cruise control on all the fuel injected bikes?  It's a pet peeve, and after an hour or so my wrist gets tired....I've tried the Cramp Buster and the throttle locks, but they aren't in the same league as true electronic cruise control.... :huh2: :huh2:

I have one on my SESG.. and I had cruise on my Road King Classic, both are EFI bikes.. The PA catalog has cruise as an add on for all touring bikes.

"All Fuel injected bikes" is all of them now----the cruise control is considered a 'touring" accessory. Also--there is no room on every bike for that module or the switch. Not to mention needing to redo all model wiring to accommodate the add-on. Just my $.02

Cruisemount has been providing necessary parts and wiring harnesses for using HD cruise control kits on non-Touring models.  Dave, the owner, is a very good guy and knows his stuff:

If you want to add HD cruise control to a non-Touring model, perhaps he can provide a solution.

Thanks Carl.  I will check out getting a unit for my Heritage Softail.  It still makes little sense that HD wouldn't offer a mod, especially since they'd probably get $1000 for one.............

I used this kit. http://www.customizedcycles.com/softail_cruise/ I liked it better because it mounts the control unit where it can't be seen. It was a very easy install.

I agree...much better than the other one with the box hanging by the oil tank.

I think you will see a lot more cruise control offered once H-D expands the Electronic Throttle Control to all models.  That removes the requirement to find space to mount a module, since ETC eliminates the need for a separate module and cable.  All you would need then is the switch and hand controls.  The cost would be next to zilch for H-D, but of course they would charge at least $499.95 plus tax.
