Anyone have a chopped tour pak pad template?
« on: July 03, 2010, 02:13:40 PM »

I picked up my new King Tour Pak, and want to put a chopped TP pad on it...I noticed mine came with a template for where to drill the holes for the King pad (even though the holes were already pre-drilled), so I was hoping someone who ordered a chopped TP still has the template that came with theirs?

Thanks.

Mine was predrilled, and didn't come with a template.

You can always cheat.  Put screws/bolts in the backrest and dab a liberal amount of grease on the heads.  The line the pad up where you'll want it on the tour pak.  Let one touch the other and then drill through the grease marks.

thanks for the advice...I thought of that as well, but when I saw mine came with a template, I thought I'd see if anyone elses did as well- safer option and less room for error.

My buddy and I ordered 2 Tour Paks at the same time for our FLTRSE3's, he ordered the King and I the Chopped. He wanted the Chopped pad on his as well so I made a template off of the Chopped Pak and transfered it over to the King and marked for the holes - worked great, only now we gotta figure a way to cap the 4 holes where the King pad 'wings' bolted up. You may want to check if your Harley shop may have a Chopped one available to make a template from, or find someone who has one and even make a template from the inside if he doesn't want to take it off...might work...since the bolts are on rubber bushings, lining it up might not work real good...good luck.

I used chrome button head allen bolts to fill the extra holes.....some have used black rubber plugs.

thanks for all the advice...surprised nobody got the template like I did...as for the extra holes from the King pad wings, I thought one of the many medallions (like the small round Willie G skull, caliper inserts, I believe) that some put on their rear fenders, might do the trick- one on each side, would be different.

hey mjb765 and North Star, great ideas on plugging the holes, I was gonna get some super low profile body plugs from my paint shop guy and have 'em painted, but since I'm the only one in our group who knows how to turn a wrench your ideas are a lot less work - plus - my buddy's not payin' me for all this hard work anyway, I think one or the other idea will work...also, I have question - is there much of a gap between the bottom of the Chopped pad and the seat?...I noticed that on the E.G. Classics there's another pad bolted to the bottom of the TP, was gonna see if I could order just that piece to fill in behind it if needed...thanks guys
