I dont know if it is the best, it is what I have..

http://www.ridersclaw.com/

A 12 volt charge cable and aux wire to the radio. (PDO power2 cable )

http://www.macworld.com/article/133000/2008/04/ipod_power_adapters.html

Would be neater but I like o be able to take the stuff off quick..

Now the site Nabobs may go with a garmin gps and load music in, I may go that way soon too..

The riders caw mount is the way to go. For $105 you can send your radio to Iron Cross Audio and they will hard wire an IPOD docking cable to the radio and you will switch to AUX to play the IPOD. No remote control of the IPOD, but it will charge and play audio.  Read here. http://www.ironcrossaudio.com/additional-services.html  Probably the cleanest way to go on the wiring end.

Looks like everyone who likes this has a batwing.  Doesn't look to be a very good option for the fixed fairing, with the distance fromt he bar to the radio and having to accommodate for the necessary slack?

On my 08 RG, I simply velcroed it to the dash just beside the radio.

Am new to the ipod  what is the best one to buy

Make sure you get a solid state iPod with no moving parts, most likely a Nano 8 or 16g. The bigger iPods, 30+g, have hard drives with moving parts that will skip or bounce  on a motorcycle and cause the iPod to lock up. Also, the battery on the Nano will last you three to four days whereas the 30g and bigger iPod batteries might last a day, if you're lucky.

If you get the Iron Cross solution that hardwires to the radio, it charges the IPOD as well. Just my $.02

I too am new to this entire idea.  Can ya use your bikes controls...  volume, change track etc... or do ya gotta mess around with some little buttons or something to jump around your songs when playing the thing????

The handlebar controls will not operate the Ipod functions, if you do like I do and put your Ipod on shuffle you will hear a different song all day long. I have an 8 gig nano.

Fast, I bought a ridersclaw from one of the members here for my I-touch. overall very pleased .I ran a audio cable from the ipod to the gauge head and then out the front to the radio.I also have a Sirius portable radio i hang beside the Riderclaw mount,so that way one cable works for either unit. as already stated just set to shuffle and listen all day.

I removed my radio and sent it to HD-Dude to hard wire an Ipod plug to the rear of radio. Then I drilled a small hole in the right glove compartment and put my Ipod on shuffle and just let it play. Plays on Aux and the volume is adjusted on the handlebar like normal.  That way there are no exposed wires and you can't see the Ipod when you stop for gas or food.  Waterproof too. Downside is that you can't change songs easily, but if you don't like a song, don't put it on the Ipod. I even have a few Christmas songs on there and they randomly pop on, great in the summer.
