Some of the weight saving on the new 2011 bikes will be from the new HDLAN wiring loom (low amperage cables)

Only on Softails I think??

Weight loss do to smaller bearings and no bushings in the engine, better quality chit! :nixweiss:

Yes, according the 2011 tech bulletin Softails are guinea pigging the new HDLAN system.  For purposes of discussion only if one assumes HD has better luck rolling that out than they have the electronic throttles that's a system I'd have high expectations for.  When brought over to touring models that system could port to control all kinds of interesting things stuck in our fairings.

I find it a little strange that they are using the Softail line to be the guinea pig for a system that is designed to simplify the electrical system on loaded vehicles.  I wasn't aware that Softails came with lots of electrical accessories.  Oh wait, do you suppose that they have so little confidence in their abilities that they purposely chose a model line with no real accessory load to speak of?  Looks like all they are dealing with is the basics of lighting, horn, and gauges.  If they can't handle that one, then lord help them when they put it on a CUSE.

All I can say is, based on their track record with borrowing automotive technology so far, I wouldn't go near a 2011 Softail unless they agreed to pay me as a test rider.  No more of that crap like in 2007 with the 110 or 2008 with the electronic throttle, with the unpaid customers doing all the testing.

When seeing the system for the first time in the 2011 tech bulletin have to admit my first thought was "poor Softail guys."  But I'm willing to let them proved they've screwed the pooch again before spanking the dog.  Call me ambivalently optimistic.

All kidding aside...I have a knee that is basically mush and needs to be replaced.  Riding my bike vs. riding my friends ElectraGlide was night and day easier on my knee in town.  Way lighter and way lower makes my knee much happier!!

I love my bike for trips and cross country riding - but it sucks around town - I'm waiting for the day my knee buckles at a stoplight and I drop it.  So, I'm considering adding a bike to the stable...something lighter and lower.  Maybe a Street Glide or Electra Glide - an 05 or 06 perhaps...

If you haven't already done so, I would suggest installing the H-D front & rear lowering kit... It makes a huge difference with your knees bent more when stopped and should be easier for you to handle it.

I have Traxxion front forks, but over the winter I am planning to send them back to Traxxion to have an inch or so height removed.  I have Legend Air suspension in the rear, so I can drop the rear at will.  Thanks for the suggestion, though!   :2vrolijk_21:

I was wondering about dropping the front with traxxions already installed. I also have the legends on back and found out you can purchase the Arnott compressor seperatly as the Arnott moves up and down much faster than the forever wait for the Legends to pump up. About $89 for the compressor.

Yea, that's some heavy leather Bill.  Good thing you didn't have to send the whips and chains with it. :huepfenlol2:

Why would I get rid of the whips & chains  :nixweiss:

Would it help if you put on some 18" wheels front and back then drop  the suspension to Streetglide height. Looks like same ground clearence but lower easier to handle overall bike height. Just thinkin out loud.
