What could it be?

My 2009 SEEG has had starting problems after the first 2000 miles. When you press the start button it makes a grinding noise and sounds like it's trying to kick back. This happens about once every 15-20 times trying to start.  The dealer has installed a new clutch basket, clutch bearing, starter and now after all that the clutch bearing is gone again. The ACR'S are working. Bike has 25,000 miles on her. What is wrong?

Talked to Tunner he said in programming the starting turns on and off things and at certain rpms their is  program conflicts that result in making starting process grind and bang.He has been able to fix or adjust when he has installed the F.B.W. thundermax .It has acr open adjustments, timming and other thing. good luck jdo

Ok, I had exactly the problem you are experiencing....mine occurred on my 08 FLHTCUSE3 when I had 32K miles.  I did have the rear ACR go out around 15K miles, but the starter seemed okay afterward for until the 32K mile point.  The dealer conferred with MoCo and replaced the starter, clutch basket, and compensator.  The new comp was the SE comp (has stronger springs and more travel)...has started up like a new MC, even better than when it was new.  I'd be sure to get the SE comp on the repair.

The dealer just called and told me it's a bad clutch bearing AGAIN. I pick her up tomorrow and I'm sure the problem will come back. Time for HD to give me a new motor......

Another bad bearing makes me concerned that either a)the installation procedures are damaging the bearing, or b)the shaft is misaligned putting undue load on the bearing.  The latter is a concern....not a good situation but if you can stick it out to one more failure, you have an excellent case for a replacement motor.  Another alternative is trade  that bike in now while all is running well for a 2011!
