Headlight Upgrade
« on: February 24, 2006, 05:13:33 PM »

I made a change to PIAA's Extreme White Bulb for my headlight and spots.  Nice difference.  I did the headlight first and turned it on, then turned on the old spot's.  NICE WHITE LIGHT.  Unfortunately the only way to upgrade the spots is to buy new spots from Adjure so I can update the H3 bulb.  Why does HD use a sealed beam for the spots anyway??
FYI, while I was at it I upgraded all my other lights to LED.  It's only money.  But sure looks good.

Holy Crap - That sounds like the most insane moment on a bike I could imagine! I layed a dresser down once and remember sliding acrossed a four lane road, everything in slo motion, I pulled myself up on the tank as I slid and remember thinking #*&$#@ I'm scratching the paint!! After coming to a rest and dusting off I say minnimal damage, popped the bike up and headed down the road, and got on the highway. Accelerated onto the highway and got up to about 65 when the windsheild decided it took enough abuse and blew off - flipping right into my chest, talk about startled, I about wet my chaps, that was worse than the accident! This all happened at about 3am in Ohio on the return trip from The Dragon to michigan in late october. Had the cb on in the headphones and heard the truckers saying look at that fool trying to get a late season ride in. They were right, last time i try to squeeze in a Saddle Sore 1000 in 30 degree temps.

I changed out my passing lamps by cutting away the seal and replacing the bulbs with regular old 55w H3's.

I just siliconed them back in.  They are not a true sealed beam just water tight with the seal used by HD.  They work fine.

I did this to get a bluer colored bulb since I had added the HID headlight and that mad the passing lamps look jaundiced in comparison.  The new 55w's help but still not a match to the headlight.  Only really anal people will notice, which includes 99.9% of the people on this site and most other HD riders when it comes to appearance of the bikes.

Well on my fatboy I changed the bucket and went with a ultra white halogen bulb vs. the stock sealed beam.It was an expensive trip. This time around went to that new sealed beam HD put out, looks good and is very sharp looking too. It cost around 85 bucks or something. Later,Q

I believe Custom Chrome has higher output replacement beams for the spots.  I had them on my 01 Ultra.  I didn't need the high beam anymore, that's for sure.  I aimed them so they'd just barely p#ss off the oncoming traffic, but they really lit up the road.  Never had a problem with them.
