SERG3 Center Stand
« on: September 16, 2010, 07:13:07 PM »

If anyone has a center stand on their SERG3, can you please post some pics and comment on it. I was thinking of getting either an EZ-UP center stand or the RIVCO adjustable center stand.

Any opinions on them?

I have the older version of the Rivco adjustable stand on my SEEG, and it's been bulletproof.  It works well, and the workmanship and plating is outstanding.  However, it isn't as effortless as they might try to make you believe.  The new version for the '09 and later frames mounts differently, and I haven't used one, but if it's anything like the older versions I'd recommend it.  The EZ-UP stands might offer less effort to operate, but in my opinion the appearance doesn't meet the standards of the Rivco.  If you can arrange to do so, it really would be best to try operating one of each, even if they aren't mounted to a SERG.

Is there any loss of ground clearance with the Rivco??  I have the EZ UP and yes..it is very easy to operate and built well, but I am giving up some ground clearance.

All I can say is that I've never dragged any part of the stand (but I have ground down the footboard supports and jiffy stand).  Could you possibly bottom out over a speed bump or similar obstacle?  I'm sure that is quite possible, but there again I learned very quickly long before I installed the Rivco to avoid those things with my SEEG or take them at a snail's pace.  Center stand or not, something is going to hit, especially with a lowered suspension.  All the stands I've ever looked at do extend down further than the actual frame rails so they all reduce measured ground clearance and could in fact hit in straight line riding over severe bumps or dips.  But if you're just talking about cornering clearance, my answer is no, the Rivco doesn't affect cornering clearance.

I have one that I never install - brand new - would sell for a great price. It fits the 09 SERG. Thought I wanted one for long trips and such but I've been fine with the stock kick stand.

PM me if you're interested.

Thanks
