NEED PICTURES of an 09 SERG, converted to 2010 Fairing Brackets
« on: September 09, 2010, 10:00:51 PM »

I have ( old style ) non vented lowers on my SERG. I am not happy with the look, or the heat. I would rather have new style vented lowers, but I am afraid I wont like the stripe alignment ( you know fairing to tank ). Anyway I have chased down all the pictures I could find from those brave souls that converted 2009 fairing mounts to 2010, none show it from the side, from far away and level with the bike. Is there anyone who is willing to risk the praise, or ridicule and share such a picture? I will thank any takers. It bothers me enough that I am considering trading in the 09 on a 2011 CVO Road Glide. I know I am nuts, so save the criticism.

Why not consider adding aftermarket vents to the lowers you have?
I think several of the SERG members with lowers have them.

I put the Hoppe vents in my SERG lowers, it is cooler but not much.  More fun to ride in the spring and fall than the summer

I changed mine over to the vented later model (read much cheaper) lowers. The brackets raised the back of the tank .800 inch or just a little more than 3/4". I did this last year around christmas, I have been to Daytona, Sturgis and a hundred smaller events. NO one has ever mentioned they know the difference. At Sturgis I had a guy ask why the chrome brackets were "bent" because he thought I had been in a accident. His bike was sitting next to mine and even he had to look hard to see the difference between his standard brackets and my '10 model ones. Definitely worth a couple hours time and the cost, easy job, just have a buddy there to help hold stuff. Sorry, no photos from the side.

Thanks for the feedback, ( as always, much appreciated ). To VaEagle, and Gordy, I put the chrome vents ( ala E-Bay ) on my old style lowers and I am not that impressed with the air flow. I have an 08 CVO Ultra and the new style lowers move a LOT more air. And I think they look better. Also had a 2001 SERG, and used Hoppe vents, decent air but I think they take away air from engine ( making it even hotter, IMO ). So once again (being the fussy bastard that I am), I want the new style vents, but don't want to ruin the paint lines of the design ( CORs' response makes me feel better about doing it). It's either this or a 2011 CVO Road Glide in Rio Red.

I also did mine last year and was concerned about the lining up of the strips. After I completed the install I looked at it from every angle. The only position you notice it is when the bike is on the kick stand from the higher side (opposite side of the kick stand) and you are down low. If the bike is upright or your standing, in my opinion it's not an issue. After riding it for a full season I have yet to have anybody even notice that I changed the fairing angle/brackets. I will say, I think that the vented lowers work & look great on the bike. I actually bought a set non vented lowers but I never installed them once I found out that the vented lowers would work. Well worth the restocking fee. If you really need a picture let me know!

I am sure you can find the part numbers on here by doing a search, I can not find my orig invoices to get them that way for you. But what you need is the main fairing bracket that bolts to frame, the left and right lower fairing brackets that bolt to fairing at the back of the turn signals and that is it. Total cost was about $140 the best I remember, and the lowers are in the catalog. Just pick the vented ones for a 2010 or 2011 RG in your color and you are good to go. They come with the doors, and the gloveboxes so other than the quick disconnect kit you are good to go and save several dollars over using the older non-vent style.

Tell us what dealer was not smart enough to look up fairing mounting brackets for a 2010 Road Glide. I never want to go there. That is all they are, just the standard 2010 mounting brackets.
