I think the Screamin' Eagle in my bike committed suicide today
« on: October 10, 2010, 05:54:16 PM »

I think the Screamin' Eagle shot out my exhaust today.  All that was left were these feathers in my muffler. (See photo below).

Actually, I was out riding my VRSCSE2 today and while we were stopped, I noticed what looked like feathers sticking out of my muffler and blowing in the wind.  I was trying to figure out how a bird could have gotten in my muffler.  Then I tried to pull the feathers out and found out it was the packing from inside the muffler with the end fraying.  Has anyone ever seen this happen before?  I don't know if V&H Powershots have removable baffles that I could take out and push the packing back in.  The bike and exhaust system only have 5000 miles as of today's ride.  If I try to get in the end of the muffler with a razor knife and cut out as much of it as I can, will I just have more of it blow out?

Sorry for the dirty bike, but I just rode through the rain.

They have removable baffles and V&H sells them separately if you can't repack them ! Usually a Honda dealer will stock muffler packing cheaper than V&H will sell you some.....................

Dave,

Apparently no one informed you of this potential result when shopping for the ROD!

This happens when you GO TOO FAST and is intended as a warning from H-D.

A typical Harley Davidson Customer Service response:

"Errrr... yeah... that's normal and to be expected.  It's well within specification.  Run it."
