rear brake abs problem
« on: October 30, 2010, 08:58:13 PM »

I have a 2009 Road Glide CVO with 7,000 miles now. I went to ride it today and when I used the rear brake it didn't work right. It acted like the abs was not allowing to work properly. I made an appointment for Tuesday to be looked at and was just wondering if anyone has had this problem. I haven't ridden in a week and the temp was around 50.

Thanks,

Mark

What exactly did it do?  Harley had many issues in the first couple years with their ABS system, and they put out at least two updates.  There was an update for all 2009 models that your dealer could perform, see the attachment for details.  One of the things involved was a tendency for small bumps and ripples in the road to activate the ABS prematurely.

I have a vibration that is NOT a rotor problem when doing an aggresive stop with rear brake. It acts and feels like the motor shake is being transferred to the brakes. I had it at the local stealer for two weeks and they say two techs rode it and found no problem (I do not think they ever left the shop with it or else it was there first day as a H.D. tech). The service manager then rode it, and felt the problem, but did not know what is causing it. I have owned many Harleys that never did this, but this is my first with ABS brakes. I have written H.D. support a letter about this problem, and two other problems that are "normal". Still waiting to see if MOCO responds. Will post if anything gets done about this problem, but do not wait by your computer, I am sure it will be awile. Also when coming back from Sturgis this year, I tapped front brake to kick off the cruise control at about 85 MPH, and I got an extreme shake that puckered up my a*#. It has done that 3 times this past summer, but obviously not when the stealer had it.
