« on: November 10, 2010, 08:50:12 PM »

OK guys my 103 has a little noise in the top end, to me it sound like a little lifter noise. I bought it from my bro n law, he just had new lifters ,cam, cam plate etc installed. when he got back from his last trip. I didn't here it before he took it to the shop. And now he out of pocket for a while. I have spoke with some other guys at work and some say they all make noise. It has 33k miles am I just over worried, new baby you know. Thanks Big Pop.

Does the bike have the stock cam?  If the cam has been changed does it have adjustable pushrods?  If so you might check to ensure the nuts are tight on the pushrods.

Have the heads been off the bike?  You could pull the rockerbox covers 6 bolts each and check for any interference or hitting or that all bolts are tight in there.

One other thing is if they replaced the pushrods, maybe they are slightly wearing on the tubes at the top.  Might check for that might be as simple as a champher of tubes or going with tapered pushrod.

When a dealer installs the 251 cam they "generally" use either Perfect Fit Pushrods or SE adjustables.
FWIW in my own bikes I have used the 251's and they can be a noisy cam on the top end.

After you have tried all other mechanical resolutions, if its still a little noisey, you might give the redline 20 60 a try.  It seemed to do wonders on my motor ...  i have gear drive cams and its just as quiet as can be with that oil.
