fuel filter replacement

Stuck in a new fuel filter last night.  Here is some pics.
17000 miles on this filter

I think it is supposed to be done at 20k but I figured as bad as gas is getting I might start changing every 10k.

The shop foreman at my local dealer told me a few weeks ago that he is recommending to his customers to change the fuel filter at 20k vs the regular 25k interval. Claims he is seeing very dirty filters early on a pretty consistent basis. Possibly due to fuel blends. FWIW

Did not know they had filter how did it come out ? Remove fuel pump? any help would be good thanks

Changing that filter out every 15,000 miles would be my suggestion. Everytime I change it the motor loves that easy flowing fuel and runs much better. You wont realize that until you change it. It is located inside the fuel tank.

It is not a difficult job but there is a lot of room for error.   The center chrome dash comes of with two bolts and then can be flipped to lay where the seat would be.  You do have to remove the fuel cap to get it off then put it back on. 
Then the scary part if you do not have the right tool.  You need to remove the lock ring.  Careful! It could be easy to damage the tank.  Once the lock ring is off the whole piece can be worked out. 
You will need to disconnect the two lines connected to the filter housing, these are simple squeeze and release connectors.  The lines will fall back into the tank and you will be able to reach in when it is reconnect time. 
The filter housing is held on by the silver metal slide lock.  Remove filter and replace.
Just don't drop anything in the tank.

COVER YOUR TANK!! and when tightning the lock ring make sure it is seated all the way. Don't ask me how I know that but going down the freeway at 75 mph and fuel streaming out of the tank will get your attention!! :o

Just had mine changed after 21,500 and it looked as bad as your pics.  Going for 15,000 from now on.
