Passenger grab rail
« on: November 27, 2010, 11:32:41 AM »

I installed this p/n 97026-09 on my '11 RUSE but I prefer the look and style of the older version.  This new version is located much farther forward and can affect riding comfort for a bsr.

Does anyone know if the older version p/n 91583-99 will fit bikes with the new style frame?

I was told that the problem with the older version (and why it was discontinued as an oem part) was that it interfered with the rear speaker pods on the tour pak (must have changed something on the tour pak).  But my tour pak has George Anderson's relo kit and this would not be a problem.  But unsure if it will physically attach what with the wider fender on the newer bikes.

I have a 2010 and had same problem with the back of my wife say the smae problem.  What I came to realize was when I moed the tour pack back it relocated the position that the handles should be in. If the handel moved back with the tour pack it would be fine.  Also when the tour pack is moved back sometimes the passenger's legs rub the crash bar infront of the saddle bag.  Hope this helps.

Yeah that would be correct - as the passenger moves back then their legs are positioned differently as regards the grab rail and this no doubt contributes to the problem.  But with that being said there is no way I would not keep the tour pak moved farther back to allow more room.  It is not really that much of a problem for her but if the older style would actually fit that would be my preference.

Jerry,
It's my understanding that the older version will not fit the 2009 and newer touring bikes.  My wife said the same thing about the new ones; that they were farther forward.  Fortunately, she has long arms, so when I move the tour pack back, she shouldn't be uncomfortable grabbing them.  Speaking of George's relo kit; is the kit mounted so that the flat side is facing down?
