Looking for reliable bike transporter!
« on: November 26, 2010, 05:17:20 PM »

Hi,

I am in the beginning stages of planing our annual trip.  One of my 3 thoughts would require transporting 8-10 bikes from Southeast Michigan to Colorado Springs Colorado early June.  We need a very reliable carrier, our entire trip is based on him being there when we land, we grab the bikes and go, and then when we return 9 days later so we can catch our flight back to Michigan.  Last time, we flew the driver back and forth so he could work the week, and I arranged for his rig and trailer to stay in the Denver area for the week.  We are more interested in reliability and convenience than cost.  Any recommendations would be helpful.  I can't locate the guy that did the haul for us becasue it's been 3 years.

This trip heading south to Taos NM, then back up into southern Colorado, Durango, Telluride, then back south into NM into Arizona, Lemon Mtns, Grand Canyon City, up to Utah, Bryce Canyon and Moab, back east into Colorado finishing up at Pikes Peak.  All in all, about 2,600 mile loop starting and finishing in Colorado Springs.  Need a transporter to ship bikes versus waisting time riding the corn fields and flatlands from Michigan.

Hopefully one of those thoughts you have is to ride instead of haul.  That Ultra you have was made for the open road. I have done the ride from Denver to Michigan a couple of times. Turn up the tunes, put your feet on the highway pegs and cruise. Unless you are just wanting to get that "hands on" body search from your "friendly" TSA pat down specialist.  :2vrolijk_21:

Time my friend.  There are 10 of us in all, two will ride becasue they have the vacation time and flexibility.  The rest of us paupers choose to haul the bikes so we can spend the limited time that we have riding and seeing the best this country has to offer rather than race to the destination.

Six of One, Half Dozen of another...I thought part of the fun was getting there. Enroute to MV10 this year, we had just as much fun riding there..Just a thought. :2vrolijk_21:

There are a number of members that have utilized different services and have been pleased with their results.  I am confident that they will provide you with their experience in the coming days.

For me I have utilized Federal Motorcycle Transport and have been pleased with their results.

For me at least the on-line quote was higher than what I paid after me personal conversations with them.

Good Luck with your decision

Thanks,

I agree, i have an incredible machine for the road.  Problem is Job, wife, kids, and several other handcuffs that prevent most of us from taking the extra time to get there.

And when you get to the point in your life when you can "just go ride", damnnnnnnnnn it feels good too!!  Enjoy your trip.  Your day will come when it's your time!
