I did this recently and it worked out fine for all concerned. Guy wanted to buy my scooter, but did not have the cash so we worked out a deal where the dealer basically 'washed it through'. Translated this means they took it in ona consignment, and then sold it from their 'inventory', that way they could work the financing and an extended service plan with they buyer that worked out for all. If major mods. (cams, etc.) were done by a dealer, there are still companies offering extended warranty plans (but big $'s). Having the service records helps grease this one. There are stealerships out there, but still some honest ones that are willing to work with you. Now, if they'd just sell all CVO's at their MSRP or below  ::)

Yes, but not in California it seems or at least in the Bay area. It's a seller's market, meaning dealer, but it's sad to see riders selling off their Eagles so soon after purchasing them and taking it in the shorts on the mark ups. I don't mind them making a profit, but adding $6-$8K premium is sorry. Of course Milwaukee has heard a lot of grief on this, but they must follow Taft-Hartley law and can only suggest sale prices. No win situation in a lot of cases.

CVOJOE,

6-8k mark up is crazy. I'd shop elsewhere and either fly out to ride the bike back or have it shipped back and still be 5-7k ahead on the deal.....................

Crazy it is. We have a silly law here from our DMV that "non-Calif" vehicles must have at least 7,500 miles on them to qualify for registration. Doesn't matter that they're '50 state' legal, we're different don't you know ?
The only difference I can see on the CA bikes is the carbon cannister and associated hoses, and maybe some changes in pipes on some models. Since the pipes are normally the first things we change, followed closely by seats and the stock grips, they're not an issue for most.

CvoJoe,

Would it be possible to have an out of state dealer order you a bike with the California emission's package?  Would that work within the framework of your state laws? I notice they list it as an option in all the MOCO's literature.

Harley-Davidson dealers have to have california as part of their assigned territory to order california bikes.  California border dealers, ie. Reno, NV can order california bikes.
Pricing can be high; however, the norm in the bay area is nowhere near as stated.  Yes mark-up does exist to that extent at a few dealers, but msrp is available; however, probably sold out - at least the Ultras. :)

I think Harley hit it very well. But, the SF Bay area dealers are moving the '06 Ultras at about $39K +. Never shop the V-Rods, so can't compare that pricing.
Next new one will be non-Calif. for certain, I'll definitely work a different angle or just buy a new speedo in the process and 'calibrate' for 7.5K.

There are CVO's sold all over the state at msrp. If you can have someone at your local "stealer" do a vehicle locater search on their computer for the model you are interested in, it will show all the dealers in Ca. that have received the bikes. Then you call until you find one thats available. If they won't do it send me a PM, I can get you connected. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Take advantage of this as buying one out-of-state is a hassle.

Man oh man, I wish I had known about this seller assist program at the first of this year when I was trying to sell my old 99' Road King. Great info for use at a later time.
