1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles
« on: December 01, 2010, 08:03:40 PM »

Just got her back out of the shop again---master mechanic claims nothing is wrong---bike is blowing a quart of oil every 1,000 miles----no smoke and no leaks----people riding on bikes behind me say there bikes are getting coated with oil....It was just out of the shop where the mechanic told me they had to replace the heads again because the valve guides were bad -----I was told they could not be repaired in those 110 motors and the heads would have to be replaced in order to correct the problem----top end still rattles as well---only 6 more months of HD warranty then I can go to extendid warranty and take it to a real shop----

mine was doing the same thing, they found that the cylinders were egg shaped as well as the valve guides being bad.

Keep monitoring your oil use. When it gets more than a quart in 1,000 miles you may be able to get something done. See my post in three quarts missing oil in this forum.
I kind of dug up my experience and what I discovered about the factory "protocol" for this situation.

I'm not sure that it's portable, it is just underwritten by a third party.  Besides to still have to get pre approval on repairs and how it's repaired.  I'm not sure that you'd be better off.

I believe it's been posted before that "Metal Dragon" is an approved shop for the ESP. :nixweiss:

Same issue here.  About 1 quart per 1k miles.  Plugs pulled and oil everywhere.  Compression failure (head and leak).  I did the "upgrade program, but that did not address the cylinder liners lifting-  A really big issue.  All repaired, but HD refuses to provide any warranty past 90-days.  Given it was a design issue, 90-days is little comfort.

Check out my thread "does your 110 use oil?" in the twin cam section.
