Considering D&D Fat Cats and looking for more sound clips
« on: November 22, 2010, 10:33:59 PM »

Since I just stored the bike, I can now focus my attention on what mods I want next. I've been happy with my fullsac set up (x pipe, 2.25" baffles), but I want an exhaust with a little more character and authority, plus a bit more performance would be nice. The thing I like about what I've heard about the D&D is the noticeable increase in low-mid torque, and several have mentioned their engines seem to spool up quicker, which is the thing I think my bike lacks, although she runs great.

The only thing that makes me hesitate getting rid of my x pipe is the fact it's ceramic coated, and the D&D is not. Sure, I can get the D&D headpipe ceramic coated (providing the heat shields are removable, as I've heard they come pre-assembled??), but adding that cost to the pipe and ghost pipe, and I'll be in for about $1,300.

Anyways, enough of my thoughts- what I would love to hear is some more sound clips, in particular of a drive by of an D&D equipped CVO 110"- the only clip on youtube I found of a CVO was a sweet blue 2010 CVO SG, but it was at idle, and he said something about custom baffles (I'd be looking at the standard baffles).

Soooo, if someone is bored and is looking for their 15 minutes of fame, maybe they'd be in the mood for filming such a video clip? Better yet, maybe we should start an exhaust sound clip thread like I've seen on another forum?

I had the D and D Fat Cat / Boss 2 into 1 on my 2009 SERG and it was awesome sounding, it produced good HP, somewhere in the mid 90s I remember and around 112 ft lb torque, I think there are better performing pipes out there.  I am thinking the new Vance and Hines Pro Power Pipe for my 2011 Road Glide Ultra CVO, going to order one as soon as available and give it a whirl, if it doesn't perform like other V & H pipes I have had, then go back to D and D.

It isnt quiet NorthStar, even the "quiet" baffle is pretty loud. I'd encourage you to listen to one if at all possible, they have a unique sound that probably isnt for everybody.
I'm happy with both quality and performance of my D&D but you definitely need to be considerate around the crowds.

I have had the fulsac setup with the 09 headpipe no cat  and it worked great but did not have the sound I was looking for so I went with the D@D fat cat set up  ssert and dyno tune  and I am happy as a pig in s$it  As for the V@H I have them on my cvo dyna and springer and they are good but my money is on the D@D......

aclass is completely right about the D & D, their sound isn't for the faint of heart, it does really roar and when the engine is revved it really opens up.  I ran the quite baffles thought one pipe was a ghost the mufflers were the same.  I found with mine on the 09 SERG that at around 74 it had a perfect drone though with the stock stereo speakers the exhaust could over power them, so I had to update to the Hawg Wired separate amp and speakers to get some more boom.  I did have some people complain that riding behind me it was loud, I never had the chance to do that, wife was always so happy with her 2010 Road Glide Custom she didn't want to trade.  Maybe now that we both have 2011 Road Glide Ultra CVO's she will be more compliant to change bikes while we figure out what exhaust to use - once we warm up here in Montana.

Thanks for all the info. I thinik my tolerance and definition of loud is different than most- I don't consider my Fullsac 2.25's very loud at all, and I wouldn't mind some more volume.

I mentioned before, but the owner of my indy shop put the D&D Fat Cat on his 2009 RG, so I'll give them a listen come spring time.

Actually at this point, I'm reconsidering the Rinehart 4" slip ons, so that I can keep my Fullsac X pipe, which is a plus as it's a probably a good performer, and it's ceramic coated for coolness vs the D&D which is not. And also for the obvious reason this would be a much cheaper route to take.

The only thing is that I don't know how much louder/deeper, if any, the Rineharts will be vs the Fullsac 2.25 that I have now. I don't want to drop $500 to find out there isn't much difference between them. I've heard the Youtube sound clips, but it's hard to tell.

Any opinions from those who have heard both?

I have not heard the D&D fat cats on a 110, but i considered them becasue they are a great performance pipe as you stated, but i thought the sound was too tinny, more like a Japanese Harley wanna be?  For that reason i went with Rinehart true duals.  If you want a deep throaty sound, thats the pipe with the 2.5 performance baffles.  Rinehart is a great performance exhaust system too, and quite honestly, I think overall the difference between good quality pipes are better explained on graphs......not  something you will necessarily notice in the seat of your bike.  My suggestion is go for the sound and look!

Hey Bro,
Had rinhearts on my ride for a while liked the sound,  of course these were replacing stock ones, however, pal of mine had the d and d,s and loved the sound the first time I heard them. Yes, it is different, maybe a little tinny but not pussy tinny, actually with my set up HTCC CNC Ported heads high comp. pistons and cams it buts me in mind of a small block chevy with a lumpy cam and headers at idle, kind of a nice mechanical sound. when I decide to go by (blow by) my bros they say it,s not a roar but, like a shotgun blast,  scares the ______ out of them! He he, hey whats more fun then people? Hope this is a help!

Thanks for all your opinions. I am now wondering about the D&D slip ons vs the Rinehart 4". I may not go for the full D&D 2-1 system at this time, because it's pretty pricey, and there are other mod's that are more of a priority (like PYO Monkey Bars  :bananarock:).

The D&D website shows the slip ons only come with 1.75" baffles? If that's the case, they couldn't sound anywhere near as nice as the Rineharts, which I believe come with 2.5" baffles. Also, there are very few youtube clips of just the slip ons, so I don't know- I think the Rineharts are in the lead.
