Iphone- What's needed for the SERG?
« on: January 01, 2011, 04:23:01 PM »

Picking up an Iphone 4 soon, and I never owned an Ipod, so I don't know what's required to play the downloaded songs through the stock stereo on the SERG- I thinkin' it's not as easy as just plugging into the little auxillary hole in the stereo face- do I need something else?

Just to play the tunes that's it.  Everything will be controlled at the iPhone though.  No controls of what's playing through the radio or hand controls.

Iron Cross offers an upgrade to the stock radio that adds an ipod connector.  Harley also now has its own ipod connection hardware.  Both options require time and money.  Using the aux jack costs neither.  So it only depends on how fancy you want to get.

Okay great, thanks Two Lane.

In that case, all I'll be getting for now is a mount, and I'll just use the aux jack for now.

Guess I'll search around for an I phone holder- I saw the thread a few down from mine, but I'll research it a bit more.

Is the volume at least still controlled by the hand controls while using the aux connection?

Yes.  Anything plugged in to the aux jack has volume controlled by the radio.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind, but I saw the Ram cradle and plate with ball for under $20 that I can use with my existing Ram gps mount. Of course, then I can't use my GPS and the I phone cradle at the same time, but I only use the GPS if I'm going on a trip somewhere.

Guess I'll wait until I actually get the phone, and until I can actually ride again...it's feels like a long winter already  :'(
