Hog Tunes Speakers/Radio control stopped working temporarily
« on: February 01, 2011, 06:54:53 PM »

I installed the 902.2/Amp System in my Street Glide during the Christmas holidays.  The system was working great.

With the bad weather, I had the bike garaged on a battery tender for a few weeks.

Over the weekend, I got the bike out for a short ride.  When I started the bike, the radio was on but there was no sound.  None of the controls on the radio would work, even tho the display was working.

After a short ride to the store, I started the bike back up and the system was working normally.

Anybody have this happen to them?

Is there some sort of circuit breaker in the system that could cut out the speakers, radio controls etc.??

Thanks in advance.    :-\

Were none of the radio controls working or just the volume?  If only the volume didn't work, I'd suspect the amp/amp wiring was the problem.  Intermittent electrical problems can be a bear to trace.

Give HogTunes a call; they provide excellent customer service and product support.

The radio display was on, but all controls (i.e. the ones on the radio and the hand controls) did nothing.  No sound from the speakers.

I reached out to Hog Tunes and had several emails back and forth between Scott and PEZ Tuesday night.  They couldn't remember if anyone had experienced a problem due to using a battery tender.  They said they were going to check with Iron Cross.

I just took a peek at my email inbox.  They got the opinion of one of their experts.  Here it is:

What I think is more likely, is that the battery voltage dropped low enough during start-up that the micom in the H/K head unit did not initialize correctly and “locked up”. This can occur even with a fully charged battery if the motor has been sitting for a while… it takes a ton of current to get the motor to “unstick” and crank the first 10 degrees or so, which causes a big voltage drop, but only for fractions of a second, but that’s all you need to lock up a radio. This is made worse if the ambient temps are cold… and with bigger inch motors like he has with the CVO bike. Then he drove the bike, so the motor was no longer “stuck” , and subsequent start-ups did not result in such a low voltage, so the system worked fine.
~~~
Hopefully, I'm ok.
