flywheel P/A 23729-07 A vs. 23601-05 for 110s
« on: February 15, 2011, 01:39:41 PM »

by description instead of the standard 110 flywheel P/A 23729-07 A the older and more solid seeming 23601-05 should fit in dyna and touring 110s. But H-D does not endorse this - anybody knows the reason?

I found on HDForums:

" ... You can't use 23601-05 It might be stronger, but it has a different shaft on the primary side and maybe on the cam side as well (not really sure about that, but I know the primary side is different)."

That true?

I think the person on the H-D forums site was confusing the crank assembly used in the '06 and earlier 103's with the one you mentioned.  Due to some strange part numbering glitch, it appears that the 23601-05 is actually made for the '06 Dyna and '07 and later Touring engines (see attachment).  I thought at first it was a typo, but when I checked previous years SE catalogs that part number/description was the same.

It is true that the previous stroker crank in the CVO103's won't work in the current engines.  The output sprocket shaft is totally different to match up with the redesigned primary, for one thing.

that's what I thought too - but strangely H-D Germany headquarter techs insist P/A 23601-05 will not fit in a FLHTCUSE4 of 09. Of course they can't give you any better reason than "it's a known fact" :nervous:

The reason I believe, is that the 09 CVO (as well as 96" and later year stock 103") has the tapered small end rod.
The piston for the motors with the tapered small end, has corresponding taper in the piston

A full with small end rod will not fit in the stock pistons for the newer motors.

Kraut,
Just as a reminder, the SE and all after market pistons are made for the non tapered small end rod.
If you use one of those, you could use the SE crank as well.

Ps, my car is made in your town. Ds :2vrolijk_21:

Hmmm, P/A 22502-07 is not on the "fits" list and worked with P/A 23729-07 A so I'm afraid I can't change  :nervous:

Hope you enjoy your "saxonian" product - the Bentley I suppose  ;D

 ;D

it's a long story - but as the Phaeton didn't sell as Piech thought it would they are now assembling mainly Passats and Bentleys here in Dresden just to keep the show going on. Everybody is very disappointed - but nobody dares to even consider it could have been a mistake of HIS MAJESTY  ;)

the Phaeton didn't sell enough for a long time and the factory had severe quality issues because the lines just didn't run long enough. So they started to assemble first Passats and then Bentleys too to get into the needed numbers.
