Rider's Backrest
« on: June 26, 2004, 11:48:22 PM »

Hi Everyone , Hopefully everyone is having a great riding season . Sorry about your luck JCZ .
How far is the rider's backrest supposed to recline ? Mine is pratically straight vertical and a little uncomfortable on long rides . Any suggestions would be appreciated . I tried the adjusting lever and it doesn't go back but it does lean forward when the seat is not occupied .
Thanks to everyone whose efforts make this a GREAT SITE  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] [smiley=1syellow1.gif] [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

I agree with you also!  The backrest does not go back as far as it needs to and another 3-5 inches would be great.  The nice thing is that it's small enough so most of the time I just put it inside a saddlebag in case I want it...........

Took the covering off mine and sculpted the side of the foam that faces the front of the bike so it is contoured. Much more comfortable and now there's a bit of a gap between it and my back.

Now, I generally move it forward on long trips for back support and when I scoot forward to use the highway pegs on the crash bars.

I too took the cover off but did more extensive alterations.  I was getting major complaints from my passenger about being wedged in.  I cut the foam and the rigid back support off the bottom so as to allow the passenger's legs more room.  I left the top of the backrest unaltered.  That coupled with keeping the backrest in the highest position  makes it much more comfortable for the passenger.

I just took my seat off and relocated the backrest bracket.  I don't know how it will affect the passenger, but it is MUCH more comfortable for me.  It is set in the second row of holes from the front.
