CVO Springer vs Convertible
« on: October 29, 2010, 08:32:06 PM »

I currently have a 08 CVO Springer and have been looking at the Conv, preferably a 10 in Inferno. Could someone tell me what the differences would be? Would the Conv handle better? Would it ride over rougher pavement better? Anyone that could elaborate on the pros and cons of both would greatly be appreciated. Thanks to this forum, I have been educated on the differences between the 2010 and 2011. Thanks in advance.

It wouldn't look as nice as your Springer.

I love the Springer and really like the Conv as well, but the Conv would give me a lot more storage with the bags.

Can I suggest you look into fitting the Convertable bags onto your Springer, the dealer will probably tell you its not possible, I have briefly looked into the idea when I first saw the convertable on the swowroom floor and I an convinced with a few mods adapting and painting it can be done. It is only the cost that has stopped me from doing it. Contact Robbie38 he has fitted conv bags to his 09er

Check out Boss Baggs:

http://www.bossbags.com/Phantom%2037.html

Have them on my Wide Glide and couldn't be happier. A bit pricy but they are made so well they are worth it! You can also get some nice accessories. Have the front and back pouches and they are great for carrying sunglasses, seat cover, tools, etc.

Then get a roll bag and and a rear fender rack and you should be good to go.

Found a photo of their bags on a springer.

I appreciate the feedback, but still, no one has compared the 2 ride wise, handling wise, etc, etc.

I am also very fond of the looks of the Springer, however I don't think I can agree that it really is a better looking Motgorcycle than the Convertible!
Both are works of art in my opinion!
As far as ride quality, the biggest difference you will feel is the way the 21" skinny front tire handles in grooved pavement and where loose objects may be present on paved surfaces. Other than that ride quality will most likely be very similar.

Smoker,

Thanks for the info. I purchased the Conv in November and now am waiting for spring to try it out. If I liked the Springer, I am sure I am going to love the Conv!

The 2008 CVO Springer doesn't have the skinny front tire like the 2007's do.  The springer is going to feel more solid but possibly a little heavier on the front end and won't be as forgiving as telescopic forks on potholes or sharp bumps. Mine handles great in the curves and is not as prone to nose dive when braking hard and IMHO it just looks more classic.
