New 110 Inch Remap
« on: February 14, 2011, 05:43:02 PM »

I'm new to this site so please excuse me for asking a question that I'm sure has been asked before, I've looked but haven't been able to find the thread.
When I bought my '08 Electra Glide I had to invest in a Stage One Set Up which included an ECU remap so it wasn't tripping over its' self & to stop the pipes turning blue.
Am I going to have to do the same to my new FLTRUSE or am I going to have to install an SE Super Tuner?

You will need some sort of tuner---either a race tuner, TTS, power commander,V&H tuner just to name a few. Do a search in the FLTRUSE and/or the intake/exh section and you will find tons of info on the subject. You will need something since the bike is going to be running very lean and much hotter with a factory tune. Some dealers are knowledgeable with this and will help you decide--usually the ones with a dyno. Or if you have a good indie shop that you trust.

 Are you planning exhaust mods?

Get a TTS and install the map for stock pipes that comes with it. The bike will run better and cooler....then do your mods and then have it dyno'ed and tuned properly. That's what I did on my '10. For my new SESG2 I am putting on an '09 headpipe since the O2 sensors are different and using the Revolution Performance EMS kit. It's more $$ but you don't need the dyno...read about it here: http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=58189.0

Either way the bike will run better......with the EMS you can do additional mods and not have to bring the bike for a dyno tune--you send them your ECM and tell them what you are running and they remap the ECM and overnight it back to you. With the TTS you can mess around with the tuning yourself, but to be sure you really need and exhaust sniffer.

I'm a bit antsy about voiding the warranty.
I got a new engine in my '08 Electra Glide at 28k km due to bottom end issues.
My dealer was really good about it, had the bike back in 10 days, but the service manager did say that it was a good thing that all the mods that I had done, with the exception of knocking the guts out of the stock mufflers, were all factory parts & procedures because it made it much easier to put the claim through.

Each dealer is different about that. There are people on the forum who have done cams etc and not had any problem with their dealer. Technically if the failure was not a direct result of the mod then you are OK, but some dealers can be a pain in the a$$ about this.

With the possible exception of Poole's H-D in Hamilton back when Percy was still in charge, Mountainview H-D in Chilliwack is the best Harley dealer I have dealt with.
To make life simpler I'd prefer to stick with H-D parts, Mountainview does have a dyno.
Has anyone had any major grief with the Super Tuner or warranty issues with it installed?

Shouldn't be any issue with warranty--especially with the dealer that did the work for you.
