There used to be a commercial on TV years ago for Annco Transmissions where a competitor was trying to repair a transmission with very little luck when the shop gopher that looked like the village idiot was standing nearby holding a garden hose trickling water and he said to the boss  '' Let me fix it. . . .     It is a funny play on words basically showing that some shops hire unqualified mechanics.  Does that explain it or do you need a website so you can see the commercial yourself?

........................................................................
BTW: I asked why CVO's don't seem to experience this issue and their answer is that the 110's are "run in" before installation.

Never ceases to amaze me what the rocket scientists at the local Harley store can come up with.  Trust me, Harley doesn't do anything special to the 110's, they get slapped together by the same folks that slap together the TC96 and 103 versions, using different parts of course, and they don't get broken in before they get installed.  And from what I've heard, CVO's have just as many if not more engine problems than the 96 and 103 versions.  And the wives tale about synthetic not being good for break in is just that, a wives tale.  The failure of the rings to seat properly in some Harley engines has to do with the sorry state of the materials and machining at Harley, not the type of oil.

I agree that Formula Plus seems to be a good all purpose trans and primary lube, and I also agree it is better than running SYN3 in those holes.  There are many other choices that are as good or better from sources other than Harley; search among the gazillion existing threads on oils and lubes if you're interested, no need to reinvent the wheel here.

I second that notion along with the (too slippery Bull Sh** about the bearings too).........geeeez,  syn oil has been around since the 70's and we still gotta deal with this crap.

I am not a mechanic and don't trust myself to do a lot of the service work on my own bike. I do change the fluids myself and take my bikes in for a complete inspection every 10,000 miles. I have the same mechanic work on my bike every time. He has been at my dealer the longest and I know him personally and trust him. When I buy a new bike I do take it in at 1,000 for a once over just to make sure everything is good, cables can stretch, bolts may vibrate loose that were not tight etc. but after that they don't get it back until I hit 10K.

Ha Ha I knew that was coming. ;D

I was told that the Syn3 was to slick for the breakin but then wondered why they put it in the CVO line? You see them stickers all over the CVO. You can't be right and wrong with the same statement. ::)
