New England area
« on: March 14, 2011, 05:02:26 PM »

We are considering trip to the New England area around Labor Day to ride roads etc will probably spend about 3 weeks up there.
Should we consider another time frame?.   Is weather going to be a factor in Mid Late September?

It will be a lot cooler and less wind than Kansas!

Won't be that cool!  What I was referring to was a trip we did last summer.  The day we rode across Kansas it was 104 degrees with a 40 mph wind!

What part of New England are you planning to spend the most time in?  There are some beautiful mountain back roads in VT, NH, Maine and Western Mass.  I'm partial to the Rt.112 though VT and across NH and then North through Maine.  I would recommend that you contact the folks at Whitehorse Gear they are a large mail order business with a small retail outlet that some serious riders get trip info from.  They are located in North Conway NH near the Maine Border.  You can do a Google search for more info.  Pay attention to the Moose crossing signs, especially in the early AM and dusk hours.  They don't move off the road like most animals.

Good Riding

Thanks for the replies.   Initially figuring going thru upstate new york to miss the large cities.  Then tool around for the trees changing.  BSR does want to get to keenebukport sometime.  Early morning for us is usually around 9 to 9:30 and in the motel by 6PM.  However, wildlife does not use the clock so will definietly be on the lookout.

early to mid September is the best time in NE. Start up in the northern areas first and work your way down over the month. Late September is sometimes very chilly when the sun isn't out. There are many great things and places to see, enjoy!!!!

PS: The roads take a beating every winter and the repairs are usually finally done by fall so you should catch the roads at there best around then too.

There is a lot of beautiful areas and sites to visit in this areas, If you are planning to visit the mountains of NH and ME Send me an email and I can suggest riding routs and places to see, I live on the mountains of Maine and my wife is working and living at Elsworth ME at the coast by Barharbor. If you come through this area in the weekend I can ride with you and show you around. You are going to love this area and will enjoy riding before going back to the Flat Lands. :2vrolijk_21:

Hey y'all, I didn't realize that I hadn't changed my location since my move last spring. I'm in Knoxville TN now. Was in Rochester NH most of my life. I needed to move south to enjoy the milder winters which means lots more riding  :)
