Schuberth SRC and Zumo (Road Tech) 665
« on: April 24, 2011, 09:59:52 PM »

I bought a Schuberth C3 helmet and the SRC comm system looking to connect to my Zumo (Road Tech) 665.  The helmet fits like a glove. With the SRC collar and the mike there's a lot crammed in there. Took a 3 hour ride yesterday, and didn't notice all the gear after awhile. Per the manual, I connect my iPhone to the Zumo and the Zumo to the SRC. The GPS, phone and XM work ok.

XM volume was low. There's a recently released Garmin fix that enhances Bluetooth volume for audio and allows separate control for GPS volume. Fixed the issue. (Note that you must also tinker with speaker placement in the helment to find correct ear alignment.)

The connection between the 665 and the SRC occasionally breaks and a manual reconnect in the 665 Bluetooth screen is required. Also, SRC manual says I should be able to connect via Bluetooth an MP3 player AND separately connect a phone through the 665. So, I connected my Blackberry to the 665 and my iPhone to the SRC, hoping to stream Pandora through the SRC. It works but causes problems with the 665 mentioned above.  Reached out to Garmin and Schuberth support and will update after I hear.  Some posts on the Zumo forum site seem to say it can't be done, but SRC manual seems to say otherwise.

I'm Impressed with the helmet and the SRC design. Typical setup snafus.  Not a complaint.  It'll give me the basics (GPS, XM and phone) but I'm working at more (Pandora stream).

thanks for the report.  I just bought the same set up but have the 660 Zumo.  what you say makes sense as far as the hierarchy of the set up, but what if i don't have the 660 on the bike.  how will the phone interact with the SRC?  do i have to pair it again?

Not sure I get your question. If the phone is paired to the 660, it ought to work whenever in range of the 660. If paired to the SRC, same result.

Thinking of pulling the trigger on this helmet as well, how is the Peripheral vision ?

My only comparison is to my FXRG full face. The C3 is much better. I'd say the field of vision is very good.

Just purchased a C3 with SRC.  Wife's C3W should arrive by Friday.  First impression was awesome.  Helmet fits great, very quiet and lightweight.  Very easy install of the SRC collar and synced easily to my Zumo 550.

Contacted Schuberth here in So Cal twice to get some general information.  They get an A+ for their customer satisfaction.  Had a tech question so they transferred me to their tech expert.  Answered all my questions and, here's the GREAT news:

He informed me that on May 1, Schuberth will have a firmware update that fixes any bugs that others may have experienced and significantly upgrades the system.  With the firmware update, a 3rd device can be paired to the SRC.  My 2 channels are currently used for GPS and rider/passenger intercom.  With the new firmware, I should be able to add a bluetooth MP3 player or other device.  Seems they are trying to stay up/ahead of the competition so I suggest everyone with a C3 visit their website occasionally to check for updates.
