se 110 oil leak
« on: June 21, 2011, 08:34:37 PM »

just got around to doing an over all cleaning detail and noticed that my eagle seems to be spotting. I have 14,600 miles and since it almost time for the 15 K took it to the HD shop. First look the tech thinks the gasket at the oil cooler interface with the oil filter maybe leaking. Anyone else have this problem if so point me to the treads.

Have some dye put into the oil, clean the area up with brake cleaner and then keep an eye on it to figure out where it is coming from

taz, all the time. when ever the oil filter is removed take a 7/16 Allen and tighten the adapter fitting to tighten the
the hose adapter to the engine. you can locktite it, glue it or what ever and you still need to retorquc it.
hope this helps       axil

Very common condition ever since h-d changed to the sandwich style adaptor plate for the cooler.  Would have hoped they would have come up with a fix by now, but from your post and another similar one I saw not long ago I'd have to say they haven't.  Like axil said, best to recheck the torque on that adaptor every time you change the oil filter, or if you have someone else do it you need to remind them to do so.  Dealerships won't necessarily do this automatically.

mines a non-CVO 103, but I just had the same problem.

Dealer replaced the oil cooler piece and the stator...was leaking from both...glad I had the ESP coverage...used up the cost of the plan already...

oil cooler leak, stator and compensator...she's much happier now..

Good Luck!!

Dang, After a 73 shovel, 64 duo-glide and 91 softtail I thought I might get to retire a few wrenches. Thanks for the tips. :drink:

I have an aftermarket one that uses an o-ring between the two pieces unlike the stock one that uses a gasket. Prolly why the stock one will mist once and awhile. Axil has good advice on this.

I had to replace my oil cooler as we couldn't get it to stop leaking oil. Mine was leaking out of the top seal which prove out to be machined not level [ or flat]. We looked all over for a replacement, found one in Ohio as the factory had none. This ususally signals either they weren't having much problems and felt they could get by on low inventory or they are having problems and are short parts. I think the latter might be true. On  top of that I had a hose from the oil cooler spring a leak also. If tightning the screw or a new gasket doesn't do it, i would be looking for a complete new cooler.

Mine leaked there after I changed the oil at 50 miles.  At the 1K service, I had the dealer fix it.  No problems since.  Not an uncommon problem.
