HELP!!! What do I do now???
« on: April 08, 2011, 04:22:14 PM »

I finished installing a set of 10" Wild 1 miniapes on my 08 SERK. It took more time than I will ever admit to, but I got it done. Checked everything to make sure that it worked properly, amazing but it did. Rode for appx 1/2 hr. Then noticed that I had no directional , brake lights or horn. Back home checked all connectors and everything looks to be in the right place. I don't want to throw in the towel yet.Any help will be appreciated. kb

kb   Every time this has happened to me, it's been a wire that got pulled a bit from the pin connector during disassembly. Only way to fix is to recrimp all your pins. Yup, real beatch !  Best way to check is to use your voltmeter to chase out the circuit(s) section by section involved with your issue. That should help narrow down which pins need recrimping.

      Good luck

Recheck all your ground connections.

I just put on the 513's Wild 1 mini apes on my 08 SERK this week.  I would guess that you have a poor  connection on at least one pin, a poor ground will affect more items. I did not have to put any extensions so it was a plug & play for me.  If you had to put extensions you may want to check continuity on each wire from the kit, should only take a few minutes (make sure there is no power when checking for continuity).  I was disappointed with the quality and fitment on my bars.  I have to cut a little off to make it flush on the left side.  I had to use the optional kit to bring the 1 inch bar section to the the riser area which is set up for 1 -1/4.  The kit consist of two pieces of knurled metal that are intended to sandwich the 1" bars, the bottom is notched for the wiring but unfortunately the metal bar stays tightly in place even when loosened to make adjustments. This could pinch or cut the wires if pulled to far.  I decided to take everything apart and epoxy the two pieces and install two radiator clamps holding it tight.  So far everything works as it should.

Take you time on electrical issues, there are a number of experts on this site that can solve just about anything.

good Luck

I agree with this one.  Had the same issue with my radio and speakers when the tank was pulled.  Good luck.

Sounds like bad connection with one of the pins in the connector.. Make sure they are seated and crimped properly. Good luck

A true short normally means a blown fuse.  More likely high resistance in one or more connections.

when i find a dim and no blown fuzes - i chase all the grounds first, from the bat & the posts under the seat to the ones at the neck etc etc etc - and there are a lot of them on every motor vehicle

remember on a negative ground machine - all the electrons flow from the frame TO the part needing power through the switches and to the battery - if you think of suction through a house vacume hose - a hole in the hose makes it work terrible - a bad ground is a big hole in the suction.

this is WHY service manuals say to disconnect the grounds from the battery FIRST

I would also chase down the grounds first for a dim bulb.
